Comcast, Is it worth the hassle?
I have had the Comcast triple play for more than a year. When I first took it it was advertised as $30.00 per month per service. So my bill should have been $90.00 per month plus tax right? Wrong! It was over $100.00 plus taxes. They charge on top of it a few dollars a month to use a Phone modem. How are you supposed to have a phone with no modem?
Heaven forbid that you have a problem with a service. I have had many troubles with them. Only one or two times have they been on time. Once they did not make it at all and I was told they had been there and i was nt there ( I was home all day). On that day I had an appointment for between 10:00 am and noon. A repairman finally came but I believe that it was after 7:00 pm.
Since I have moved here I have had many troubles with the tv service and the phone system.I have been here about a month and a half and the tv was not right for the first couple of weeks. The phone has had several problems also. It has been out since Friday afternoon. It is now Tuesday afternoon. I have been repeatedly told that it is in their system. I have also been told different things about how long they actually have to get it fixed. I will let you know when it is finally fixed and I can get incoming calls!
Every time I call I get a little madder at them and their ridiculous security measures. I have to give them my phone number and then my name. Then they have to have my address ( don't they know where they installed this at) and lastly the last 4 digits of my social security number. Thank god that they do all of that every time (even when they transfer you to someone else ) because I have laid awake at nights terrified that Osama Bin Laden would come and fix my phone!
I was recommending them to my friends and family. Now I think that my advice might be to stay with someone else if you are not having troubles. The aggravation makes it not worth what you save. Maybe even RUN!
If you are a Comcast employee or stockholder I dont even want to hear it from you. Most likely I will not answer any comments on this anyway. Thanks for reading.
Here is an update. It is Wednesday 12:33 pm. I just got off of the phone with Comcast. They told me that AT&T had taken the number back for some reason and that is what caused this. I left AT&T around 15 months ago and went to Comcast. I paid AT&T in full before I had the number ported over. If what Comcast is saying is true I am a little ticked at AT&T but still even more pissed at Comcast for letting this error go on for so long. They should have spotted a problem like that and fixed it right away. They offered me $25.00 off of my bill for the hassle. While that is nice it does not begin to cover what I have lost on my home business in customer orders and possibly even customers period! This happened at the worst time possible.
Here is the latest. 7-23-09 at 6:12 pm. I received a call from a Comcast supervisor on my cell phone. I was told they are still working on the problem but it may take up to 7 more days! This is some service isn't it. I may as well just quit the home business as I am losing money badly on it without new orders. I think that the service at Comcast has not been satisfactory. I am going to start looking around at options and see where I may want to go.
I would now urge everyone who is with Comcast to tell here what services you have and what you are paying.I have heard that they have different rates and maybe if you know and share what they are someone else might get a better deal. But don't expect quick service on a phone repair ! A friend of mine called this morning and said that one of his friends seen this and they started talking. He was paying much more than her for the exact same services so he called and raised hell. He got a big cost break. Lets start sharing. I am looking for my last bill and will post it when I find it.
Smells like bubble gum to me it does!

I wish I could say that I love Comcast, but I don't either, and I am patiently waiting for AT & T to put UVerse and DSL in my neighborhood!

Forget that stuff! Wait til Verizon comes out with Fios (supposedly coming this fall or winter)! Fiber optics - I hear you'd have to have a T-1 line to beat it!

Well I was kind of surprised to see this today but yeah!!! They just finished installing my U=Verse...
My computer son had a ball helping the young man who installed ours. All I can say is I wish I had done it sooner. My house is now wired the way it should have been all along. He did a beautiful job. I am just awaiting the phone call from ATT&T so I can give credit where it belongs. We have a faster download for less, my son is so happy. And I am going to enjoy recording 4 programs while I am out. I can't say enough....

I am sooo jealous Krol! Did the station lineup change like if you go to Dish Network? My grandparents just did that and as of yesterday my grandpa was not so happy because he no longer gets his westerns during the day.

I had Comcast service (internet only) for two months before I moved to Florida. I called the 800 number to get a quote. Then I called back to schedule. The second person I spoke with gave me a higher figure for the service. I told him the amount I had been quoted and he said they could do it for the lower price. I made sure that price was good for just the two months I needed it, and was not for a year's service. I was told if I picked up the modem at the Tenth Street office and they would waive the installation fees. So I drove there, waited in line for 30 minutes and was then told I could use the modem I had previously used when they were Insight, but that I would still have to pay installation fees. I said I was told twice that I wouldn't have to pay installation if I came to the office. They finally agreed to give me credit. The service tech arrived at the alloted time and I was up and running. After three days of service, I found that my internet access wouldn't always be available (my pc said local service only). I called and they scheduled a service call and the tech again arrived on time. He fixed the problem outside and it was clear sailing for the rest of my contract. The tech did tell me that I should call the 800 number and request that credit be given for the times I was unable to log on. I called and received the credit. They know when you are having problems. So Brent, when you get your phone back, make the call!
I just called because my bill has gone up significantly and bitched them out. They offered to lower it by 60 bux a month. Thank you Comcast. All you have to do is ask for any current special promotions.Whooo Hooo !

I have satellite for my tv....but still have comcast for the internet. I don't have any problems with it.

Well AB, I wish I could say my experiences differ from yours, but they don't. When they were insight I had zero problems and a LOT more channels. Once they made the switch to com-crap, it has been all downhill from there.
I've called them at least a dozen times since the switch. My problem is work pays for my internet, so I cannot get a "triple play". Not that it would make much difference anyway. . . it'd still be a "comcraptic" experience as far as I am concerned.
Channels I once enjoyed with insight are no longer available to me unless I "pay more" for a higher package. . . When I signed up with insight I got the HD package that provided every HD channel they had. When they switched a number of my favorites were gone. I recently called again and tried to "upgrade", and I was told something similar concerning the "pick up the box and we'll waive the service charge". Then when I got to the office and after waiting in line I was told I would still be charged . . . I left without the new box.
I pay 150 bucks a month for this crap, and that does not include broadband. . . I'll be looking into the Verizon thing as soon as it is in our area. I cannot wait. . .
AFD Heavy Rescue Unit RULES!
We have U-Verse and I love it.
PresidentJust a member of ACSC Board of TrusteesOur Comcast bill has doubled in the last year! No reason....package prices that are no longer available, time ran out on the deal we signed up for, etc. We were customers when it was Insight, how in the he77 did time run out, or packaging no longer available? We pay it, U-verse too much hassle to install in our house, maybe Verizion well be worth looking into.
