Lies and Spiteful Animus, Characterize Health-Care Debate
Submitted by Bob Hertzog on Thu, 08/13/2009 - 4:14pm.
Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota said: Ezekiel Emanuel, one of President Obama's key health care advisors "says medical care should be reserved for the nondisabled. So watch out if you're disabled." The fact is Emanuel did not say anything like the quote attributed to him, buy Bachman. Her statement is a bald-faced lie and I suspect she knew it when she said it.
Former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, said: Seniors and the disabled "will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care." Surely if such a system were to be passed, it would be evil in the extreme. However, there is absolutely nothing in any of the five health-care bills that would require anything like what Palin is describing. Once again, this is a pure lie. Is Palin so ignorant that she actually believes what she said? I don’t think so.
The leader of Republicans in the House of Representatives, John Boehner, said: The Democrat-backed health care reform plan "will require (Americans) to subsidize abortion with their hard-earned tax dollars." The word “abortion” does not appear in any of the health-care bills now in Congress. The decision of whether or not to offer abortion coverage will probably be left up to the Health and Human Services Secretary, although right now there is not clear statement about that.
Several Republican politicians and one tv advertisement, I have seen, says that under the proposed plans, health care will be rationed. This is true health-care will be rationed, but no more than it is rationed right now. If you have health insurance, your policy tells you what will be covered and what things are not covered. In that manner, the insurance companies ration your health care. If you don’t believe it, just get sick by some malady that is not covered by your policy. After health-care reform is passed, we all will have a choice of policies and health care insurance providers, the policies they offer will tell you what illnesses are covered. You can pick and choose the policy you like. But, once you choose your health-care policy, then your health care will be rationed by that policy just as it is today.
These lies and others have been shouted and screamed at town-hall meetings hosted by legislators as they attempt to learn from constituents what they want to see in a health-care reform bill. These are not discussions they are filibusters. And the conduct of some of these attendees is un-American. They are not willing to debate the health-care issue. A debate means, means you talk then listen to what others have to say, and later you man have another chance to talk. But, these lowbrow yahoos prefer to shout down any one who disagrees with them. They are afraid to let the truth come out. The behavior is childish and selfish in the extreme.
Certainly everyone on all sides of the health-care issue should have the opportunity to express their views, but if you enter into a discussion, you are obligated to allow those who disagree with you to have their say, as well.
Some Democrats have said that this behavior is sponsored by the special interests that do not want health care insurance reformed. Personally, I think there may be a little truth to this claim, but for the main part, this is just the spontaneous behavior of people so afraid of change, they will do anything they can (even subvert the democratic process) to maintain the status quo.
Their behavior will not succeed. Americans voted for health-care reform. It was one of Obama’s main campaign promises and the majority of Americans want to see him deliver on it. The disruptive behavior by the few, will just energize the majority and cause even higher resolve to bring about the reform they asked for when they elected Barack Obama.

There is a lot of false information out about the health care plans, which are working their way through congress now. Let’s try to separate some facts from all the scare propaganda that people are getting from those who will tell any lie, no matter how outrageous, to keep Americans from getting the health care that most Americans voted for in the last election.

thank you. people just need to calm down.
pic is my son and his daughter and son (my grand baby's )
Bob I just have one question for you on this right now (maybe more later). Have you read all of the healthcare bills? Personally I don't care who said what, I want to know about the bills and what they actually say.
Smells like bubble gum to me it does!
Don't kick the dog! You will get bit.

Take your time and read it. It took me three days but only three minutes to contact my elected officials to let them know that if they support it not to count on my vote next election.
The prisoner wishes to say a word.............Freedom!!!!!!!
Each of you should read this, then send it to your network. It has met some resistance but everyone should write as many people in congress as they can. If they don't hear from us, we won't get this turned. You can use email. It is very easy. Just go the U.S. Congress and you can get the email addresses of your Senators and Reps very easily.
A few highlights from the first 500 pages of the Healthcare bill in congressContact your Representatives and let them know how you feel about this. We, as a country, cannot afford another 1000 page bill to go through congress without being read. Another 500 pages to go. I have highlighted a few of the items that are down right unconstitutional.
• Page 22: Mandates audits of all employers that self-insure!• Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed!
• Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)
• Page 42: The "Health Choices Commissioner" will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None.
• Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services.
• Page 58: Every person will be issued a National ID Healthcard.
• Page 59: The federal government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer.
• Page 65: Taxpayers will subsidize all union retiree and community organizer health plans (read: SEIU, UAW and ACORN)
• Page 72: All private healthcare plans must conform to government rules to participate in a Healthcare Exchange.
• Page 84: All private healthcare plans must participate in the Healthcare Exchange (i.e., total government control of private plans)
• Page 91: Government mandates linguistic infrastructure for services; translation: illegal aliens
• Page 95: The Government will pay ACORN and Americorps to sign up individuals for Government-run Health Care plan.
• Page 102: Those eligible for Medicaid will be automatically enrolled: you have no choice in the matter.
• Page 124: No company can sue the government for pr ice-fixing. No "judicial review" is permitted against the government monopoly. Put simply, private insurers will be crushed.
• Page 127: The AMA sold doctors out: the government will set wages.
• Page 145: An employer MUST auto-enroll employees into the government-run public plan. No alternatives.
• Page 126: Employers MUST pay healthcare bills for part-time employees AND their families.
• Page 149: Any employer with a payroll of $400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays an 8% tax on payroll
• Page 150: Any employer with a payroll of $250K-400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays a 2 to 6% tax on payroll
• Page 167: Any individual who doesn’t' have acceptable healthcare (according to the government) will be taxed 2.5% of income.
• Page 170: Any NON-RESIDENT alien is exempt from individual taxes (Americans will pay for them).
• Page 195: Officers and employees of Government Healthcare Bureaucracy will have access to ALL American financial and personal records.
• Page 203: "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax." Yes, it really says that.
• Page 239: Bill will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors and the poor most affected."

• Page 317: Doctors: you are now prohibited for owning and investing in healthcare companies!
• Page 318: Prohibition on hospital expansion. Hospitals cannot expand without government approval.
• Page 321: Hospital expansion hinges on "community" input: in other words, yet another payoff for ACORN.
• Page 335: Government mandates establishment of outcome-based measures: i.e., rationing.
• Page 341: Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Advantage Plans, HMOs, etc.
• Page 354: Government will restrict enrollment of SPECIAL NEEDS individuals.

• Page 425: Government provides approved list of end-of-life resources, guiding you in death.
• Page 427: Government mandates program that orders end-of-life treatment; government dictates how your life ends.
• Page 429: Advance Care Planning Consult will be used to dictate treatment as patient's health deteriorates. This can include an ORDER for end-of-life plans. An ORDER from the GOVERNMENT.
• Page 430: Government will decide what level of treatments you may have at end-of-life.
• Page 469: Community-based Home Medical Services: more payoffs for ACORN.
• Page 472: Payments to Community-based organizations: more payoffs for ACORN.
• Page 489: Government will cover marriage and family therapy. Government intervenes in your marriage.
• Page 494: Government will cover mental health services: defining, creating and rationing those services.
Wow that looks like it really sucks so far. I am going to have to read it. I sure would not vote for any (Read ANY party) politician that would vote for something like that!
Smells like bubble gum to me it does!
Don't kick the dog! You will get bit.
Richard ... Thanks for your comments and the information. So, Richard.... Which bill are you reading... there are 3 health-care bills in the House and 2 in the Senate.... The house must take the three and come up with one bill, the Senate must take the two and come up with one. Each body will pass their final version, then the Senate and House versions will have to be merged to make a final bill that goes to the President. Some of the provisions you cited are things I would disagree with, but you wrote that it you were citing provisions of "the health care bill in Congress." So, which of the five are you citing.
By the way, all the bills collectively take up several thousand pages of provisions. By the way, Richard, I do agree that we all should contact our Representatives and tell them how we feel about the bills.
Jacquline, Andesonbrent, Braveheart... thanks for your comments. I encourage you all to take Richard's advice. Contact your Representative or Senator and tell him (or her) how you feel about health care. As Americans we voted for it. Now, we should have some input into how it is worked out.
Look closer at my post Bob, you'll notice that I was quoting Braveheart (who by the way provided the link to the whole thing http://docs.house.gov/edlabor/AAHCA-BillText-071409.pdf in a seperate post)
The disinformation is more than the information could ever hope to be! Sadly so.
I'm with you on this one Bob. . .
AFD Heavy Rescue Unit RULES!
Well, at least they are taking time to study it. Unlike the stimulous thing they just did without revue. We need to do it now, or the world will fall out of orbit mentality,ha ha ha. The bottom line is SOMETHING needs to be done, and it needs to be as fair and practical as we can possibly make it. Imo the whole freakin economy should be based on that. If we don't all progress together, is there really any progress at all?
the hardest part of doing nothing, is knowing when your done.
Hello Richard... Sorry for the error... I guess I have the wrong version of Adobe Reader to follow Braveheart's link. In any event, he was citing -- as I understand it -- only one of the three House or Reps. bills. I wish I could get to the site Braveheart is citing, but I cannot do so with the computer equipment I have now. I did look at the health-care bill by Representative Rangel. It again is only one of the bills before the House. I want to look at it closer before I comment on it, but on a quick glance, it seemed to have some good provisions in it. However, it really does not matter what is in the bill until the House finally agrees on one bill.
Palehorse... Thanks for the comment.
Spacemonkey... thanks for the comment. Could not agree more....
