Wow. Great day. This blog is a place for me to collect my thoughts and notes about covering Character Counts Celebration today.
- Turnout was good. I heard around 5,000 people attended?
- I was running a little behind because of some banking errands (anyone have suggestions on a good local bank?)
- My shoulder hurts! I lugged a couple stacks of papers around to pass out.
- At one point I was shooting video AND taking pics at the same time. Heh.
- Thanks to the person who took the ribbon cutting picture.
- Thanks to Councilman Eicks for the ride back to my car to get more papers!

Rax is running a coupon next issue. Tommy J's isn't at the moment, but who knows in the future...
Tommy J's really has pretty good prices, and good pizza.
"If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under."
Ahh, here we go. A good story by Aleasha Sandley at the HB.
Being first is only one part of the process. For now, though, I think trying to complement rather than compete head-on with the Herald Bulletin is my best option. So, concentrate on speed and connecting the voices of the people together in a common place.
"We work for an information company," Henry Bird was known to say on more than one occasion, "not a newspaper." I imagine he still holds that view. I have to admit it's kinda weird having him back in Anderson as AFP starts to crawl.
It's a good thing, though. He's a charming man.
I had a great lunch meeting in Muncie this week. I know a lot of old newspaper people in Delaware County as well.
Anyway, make sure you check out the story at the HB as well to get the whole picture.
Meanwhile, the first of several videos is almost uploaded to AFP's Veoh account...
Stay tuned...
On a technical note...
I MISS MY T3 (?) corporate internet connection. Gannett paid a lot for it back then, but it was nice. I'm uploading half gig files at around 46k/second... takes a bit of time. I'm sure AT&T caps the upload speeds so people don't abuse it for commercial purposes.
In any case, when I have a 'fat pipe' connection again, I want to stream the police scanner for members and some other things. Ahh... the future.
And here's her piece on Peslis getting named Distinguished Hoosier (which I had wrong in my early version if anyone was paying attention...)
Spot the Photographer. ;)
