I picked my daughter up from school today and during conversation she tells me that she passed her sophmore world history test this week. Good news. The next part tells the story with ACS. The class average was a 64%. Now get ready---- this was an open book test and you could also use your notes!!! 64%!! UNBELIEVABLE!  As we are talking about this she informs me that on test days a lot of kids do not take their books to class and that generally only 4-6 kids ever take notes in class. How can anyone blame this on teachers? These kids are unpreparred for class! It starts early folks. Kids need to take responsibility and learn to be preparred for what ever comes up. Your in school. Leave the cell phone in your locker, turn the Ipod off and at least take your books to class. Maybe its just me, but I thought that was right up there along with putting your name on your paper! Okay enough venting.

P.S. And while I am at it; the teacher also tells the class there will be no curve on this test because " Miss (insert name) scored a 92". My daughters response to me was thanks (teacher) for hanging me out to dry. She said kids in her class were glaring at her and she felt like she was on the spot. As we were talking I asked her if she wanted me to talk to the teacher. She declined. What a thing to do to a student. It was not her fault they weren't ready.

Unfortunately the kids and the parents don't care.  That's obvious, what I don't understand is why. How can these parents not care about their kids education?   There are open book tests in elementary school and kids can't pass it... I just don't get it...when my daughter comes home a tells me she has test tomorrow, we are reviewing that subject until I'm sure she's confidient enough to pass the test, how well she does is up to her, but at least she will be prepared.  Tell your daughter to keep her head up.

Ballguy,

Sounds like you are parenting your child. Be careful, not an accepted practice in Anderson. Keep up the good work!

Both my daughters did the same thing to the curve in their classes.  I tld both what they could say to whomever wanted to try to put them down but bot declined.

They told me "Daddy, you told me I am not suppose to say them words."

It is not ACS.  It is parents and their dippy kids that don't care

Rusty, I disagree.  It's a mixture of both.  I've had kids on both ends, those that do very well and those that don't.  I have heard the same stories from all of them about AHS.

I've got my 5th daughter going to school there now.  Just for the record.

Gotta' disagree, CF.  I haven't read anyone blame the Wigwam for the ACSC's problems.  What I have read and heard lots of, with my full agreement, is that closing well-performing schools to save money while keeping that unused money pit open is insane.  It's not unlike someone having the dentist take the braces off their kid's teeth before their straightened because they can't afford the dentist visits AND the storage fees on their '52 Hudson Hornet which might be worth something someday if they're lucky.  Priorities, CF, priorities.  That's what's got folks up in arms about the Wigwam.  The way the ACSC board is protecting that relic, you'd think the Turin shroud was hanging from one of the backboards!

Just for conversations sake, and without going into how I *personally* feel about the Wigwam...

Before the Advisory Panel gave us their recommendations I expressed concern that the board wouldn't/couldn't accept what they ultimately came up with.  At that time I was told, basically, if we knew what was good for us we would accept the recommendation completely and that if we didn't then the whole community would know that the board was doing exactly what they wanted to do and that the whole panel experience was a waste of everyone's time.

So....now, we accepted the recommendation pretty much as presented (with option A).  They recommended that we keep the Wigwam open and move Ebbert programs over there, so that is what the board accepted.  NOW, I am being told that the board is bad for keeping the Wigwam...even though that is what the panel recommended.

Clarify please.

thanks

I don't have a dog in this fight and please understand not attacking you, Tobi but your comment seems to me that the board is just trying to CYA and put the blame on the panel for school closings. Looks like there is plenty of blame to go around. Perhaps, board needs PLAN AHEAD headings on their agenda. \

Foodie, the board was told by many many people that we had better accept the panel's recommendation.  If you remember, I had/have major reservations with it as it was presented.

As I posted in another thread, I kinda agree with you.  The board needs to be responsible for our decisions, we cannot say "Well, that is what the panel wanted..."

Did anyone else see the article on the HB website?

http://www.theheraldbulletin.com/local/local_story_098121921.html

Apparently a meeting is planned for Sunday evening so that parents can discuss the problems with the proposed closings.
