What's the Deal with the Points System?
Yes, there are prizes. The first one to crack 600 today wins themselves and electric shock treatment.

basically, you get 'points' on the site for performing actions. so many for posting to the forums, so many for posting a Blog, so many for posting an image (on the main site), etc.
FOR THE MOMENT, there are NO prizes above and beyond feelings of accomplishment.
Eventually, I'd like to use the points system to give us a look at users who contribute a lot (more points for bigger stuff, less points for just posting to raise your points...) With that list, an editorial board would decide on one or a few people to win a contributor of the month award. Maybe gift certificates to a local restaurant or a gift card somewhere... not sure yet. Eventually, though, as revenue comes in, people who contribute to the site in a beneficial way might get digital cameras, computers or other stuff to help them help the site. (Not to mention the paid gigs eventually. See MFP's Volunteer/Freelance section for an idea of what the system might be like for freelancers...)
For the moment, though, it's just a barebones idea ...
OR maybe at some point they could be redeemed for free t-shirts or something...
For now, though, they're just a number with potential for something else... ;)

it looks like it dropped it to the bottom of the list... which it shouldn't do, but as i've mentioned, this is something i patched together temporarily as i didn't know all you guys were coming over!

Yeah, I was hoping you wouldn't catch that....I originally said the first one to 400 points gets the shock therapy but since I hit that point level i decided to bump it to 500. When I did the edit it put it to the bottom. It ratted me out.
it's a feature not a bug! yay. Heh.
Seriously, though, it shouldn't be doing that. I know *why* it's doing it, but have no solution at the moment because this isn't 'true forum' software per se, just an approximation...
That's okay. It definately rats out those who make even a very small change to what they post. I have met some who are masteful at making it look like they never said something when someone busts them on it.
well, now it's a bug. i edited a post and it didn't shift it...

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes after you make a post it says you lost a point? Did it not like what I posted?
