Further on our study of trolls series...

Ok, assume for a moment that AFP was a brick and mortar business - that is a business in the 'real world.'

What would happen if the same person (wearing weak disguises) showed up repeatedly, bugged other customers, asked the help questions they know the answer to (distracting them from helping the other shoppers), occasionally yelled "Fire!", spread disinformation and half-truths or in general tried to disrupt business in the shop?

Now, translate that online and it's the virtual version of what I'm having to put up with. Is that right?

Is it 'more serious' because it happens in the 'real world'? We may use avatars and smilies online, but to me it's the 'real world'...

Does my analogy hold up?

Yes. That makes sense. :)

Yep.  It makes a lot of sense to me.  You shouldn't have to deal with it. It's harassment.  It's stupidity.

Thanks.

This was more for some of the people who might not get what the big deal is yet, or how stuff like this (trolling) is harmful... and wouldn't be put up with in the 'real world'...

I think you hit the nail on the head, kpaul.  For some reason, when people can hide behind a computer, they act in completely irrational ways, which they would never, hopefully, act like in person.  There's some sort of disconnect with reality when they get online, it seems.

Trolls should be dealt with swiftly and harshly.  Trolls don't exist for any purpose but to cause problems.  In the real world, you would call the police, but in the virtual world, its easier to just ban them.  They couldn't act like this in a classroom or at work, so why let them get away with it here? Shaddup troll and stay they hell out of our forum! SMACK!!! Oh yeah, its like that troll!

I was told I'm a troll because I "argue" with someone on Barfa. *Rolls Eyes*

So if you get slapped and you slap back are you a troll? Didn't think so.

I've noticed an increasingly violent tone to your posts lately, AW.  Should we add Anger Management to our Gambler's Anonymous Sessions??

I have spoken!

Oh yeah, AW most definitely could use some Anger Mgmt. Counseling.  That, or we could just all pitch in and get her a speed bag and some gloves.
