As some of you may know, there is a horrid stomach bug going around. My youngest (13)had it earlier this week and now my oldest (17)has it.

Neither of my boys have been prone to being sickly. So I guess in a sense you can say this is my first rodeo. Ok, today makes my second. As me about stitches and I am all over it. But barf.... not common in our house. (shut it Pope)

The doc's office advises me that it is viral and that there isn't much I can do other than keep him as hydrated as possible. Currently he can't keep anything down, so I can't give him nothing more than small sips of sprite, then we are planning on doing small sips of Gatoraide and maybe some jello. BUT only after he can keep the sips of sprite in his tummy for at least an hour.

So do any of the more experienced Mommies have any helpful hints? My poor babies are miserable. (UGh I just know I am gonna end up with it too) and I want to at least help make them as comfy as possible.

Have you got any suppositories? Yeah, they suck, but they're a saving grace around here with all the pukers.

Is it the other end too? I was always told to use the BRAT diet, banana's, rice, apples, toast, if that is the case. But if it just the top part, toast and crackers, dry of course. Use disinfectant to clean your house, I prefer bleach! Also, I just heard that no matter what, you should open your windows everyday for at least 20 minute and that gets rid of extra germs.

My son always gets the flu, plus strep throat, and usually some type of breathing problem to go with the asthma, every year. It does not bother me to be in the house for a couple days, not after my son being down for just shy of two months, that sucked!

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken.

You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Yes both ends.

Lesson for the day..,. just because he has not barfed for 2 hours does NOT mean he is ready for Pepto. ALSO Pepto barf is not fun to clean out of Tan carpet.

Yes as soon as I can get anything to stay down, BRAT diet it is.

If I can not get it under control here in the next 6 hours I will call for the suppositories. However, i have to giggle of the thought of me outside the bathroom door trying to explain to him how to do it. Wait a sec, I'm not sure I know how to do it. However, it does seem kinda obvious huh?

To think, I only had a few hours of broken sleep yesterday, worked all night and well, I am about to fall over tired. HOLY CRAP (pardon the pun) it is gonna be a long long day!

You can always rely on some of us to help you out. Last time I had to get suppositories, the doctor had to call them in, prescription only.

My little niece had a big problem pooping, still does, she is not two yet, but when she was a baby we did suppositories, neither my sister or brother in law could do it, so I had to do it a lot, I hated it, but did it. Finally my sister started, I don't believe my brother in law ever did, but then again, he is a big guy and one of his fingers would have been bigger (around) than the babies hand, way to big to do something that delicate.

Suppositories will at least stop the vomiting (and keep the medicine in, since they won't come back up!) long enough to get some fluids in. Yeah, they're not pleasant, but neither is puking!! :)

I hope he feels better soon!

yeah he is 17...he is totally gonna have to take care of that himself. I love my boy, we are close, but HELL NO!!! I draw the line. I mean dang he is gonna be on his own in a year. Mama gonna have to teach baby how to take care of some things on his own.

Why is this making me giggle? This is a serious matter and here I am cracking up as my poor son is wiggling around on the couch in pain and I am totally cracking up. Gotta love that sleep depraviation.

Another thing besides the brat diet which I have used lots of times is trying getting some Cola Syrup or if you have any Coca Cola at home, pour it into a glass and stir it until it's flat or just pour it from one cup to another until it goes flat and have him try sipping that.  When my daughter had the stomach flu a few weeks ago that's the only thing that helped her keep anything down.  We started with that and then moved to the toast and she was okay.  I am not sure if the doctors will call in a suppository for a "viral" bug. I know ours won't but they are all different and go by their own standards.  I hope he feels better..

Well we have sleep for a few. I will set some coke out and try that trick.

The doc said that he would call the suppositories in, but i have to say (goodness now I am giggling again Wiccy come on girl can't you totally see that convo with D). That I can not see how that would help either. NOTHING is staying in this boy.
