I realize that it is usually folly to engage in conversations of a political nature, but I can’t help myself. Obviously the journalist (?) who wrote the article wants readers to ASSUME that there is a Democratic (or just Obama) driven vendetta being carried out to the detriment of the Chrysler dealerships being forced to close. That is the obvious conclusion to draw when you hear that “less than 10% of the dealerships closing donated to Obama’s" (or other Democratic) campaigns.
Let me say that I WOULD NOT be surprised if in the final analysis, this would turn out to be true. However, we do not have enough info in this article to make that determination.Of the 798 dealerships slated for closing, the writer only gave specifics on 60 of these dealerships.Only 6.7% of those noted contributed to the Democratic Party (per the author’s info). If we had data on the entire 798 shops, would the percentage be the same?Obviously we don’t know.If Ms. Schilling (article author) has that info, why didn’t she publish it?Perhaps the percentage is the same, but we do not know with the miniscule amount of information the article provides.
It would also be helpful to know, of the approximately 3200 total dealerships, did more than 213 dealerships contribute to the Democrats? If the number of the TOTAL would be approximately 213, ALL we now know is that of all Chrysler dealership, less than 10% contribute to Democrats.Again, I WOULD NOT be surprised to hear that specific dealerships were targeted for political reasons.I simply believe that it is insulting for a journalist to make an allegation yet fail to provide data to back up the assertion.
Why do they call it "Common Sense" when so damn few people have it?
