They would not like either of you guys, you don't suck up and lie to people! Back in the day she would have been a great candidate, but she would not have made friends along the way, because if someone was not doing their job, or their job was no longer needed, she would cut that person, and she would not just give people jobs as political favors.

But she doesn't play politics, you know I love her, but you know she would not stand there and say you have to give Joey over there a job because his dad is so and so, she would say we don't need or want him!
Anderson does need someone with a different outlook, I wish she were younger!

Did you enjoy the $25 wheel tax or the 8%+ hike in your electric bill or the 40%+ hike in your sewer bill or maybe the BRAND NEW TRASH TAX???  that was nice!!  How about when he raises your COIT or introduces the LOIT?!  We can't afford him!  He did on his behalf bring in  jobs....  2 dunkin doughnuts however one has already shut down so he lost half of what he has brought in.

Wheel tax is a county tax.  Electric hike is due to a direct rise in energy costs (and Smith bankrupting the utilities for Nestle).  Sewer increase was mandated by a Federal court. He can't raise COIT (that's a county thing too.)   Trash fees?  What would you do to make up for the lost revenue?   What would Kevin Smith do?  He "miscalculated" revenues by 2.3 million.  Was that his plan?  "Continue The Miscalculation?"

He lobbied for the Wheel tax.  The utilities were not bankrupt, New sewers we mandated not the increase and definitely not 40%.  He lobbied in other cities last time for the COIT increase and lost!  Nothing was miscalculated the new administration was told there was going to be a shortfall of approximately $3 million and they we have to cut.  So what is the current administrations agenda continue lobbying for increased taxes??

Ockomon was in favor of the wheel tax.  Money for paving doesn't fall from the sky.

There was $900.00 in the utility account on Jan. 1.

You are correct about sewers being mandated.  That's called an unfunded mandate.  What did Smith do about it?  Absolutely nothing.  He hid from it and pretended it didn't exist.

Smith did miscalculate 2008 tax revenue by 2.3 million.  Smith's consultantant (as well as Ockomon's) Jim Steele stated so in the city council meeting.

I don't think the current administration plans on lobbying for COIT.  If you'll recall a few weeks ago, the HB reported that Alexandria & Elwood wanted to revisit the COIT issue and Ockomon politely told them they were on their own.

Hmmmm...so, if Jim Steele was both Smith's AND Ockomon's consultant, was it Smith who miscalculated by $2.3 million, or was it Steele?

If not Steele, then who did the miscalculating for Smith?

She sounds like she's something like Muncie's Republican Mayor McShurley. From what I hear, she's trying to be fiscally responsible with the city's money and the unions are fighting her - the the extent that they vandalized her house.  Here's one take on what it's like to be her:

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE SHARON McSHURLEY? This was published on the Muncie Star Press website on Sunday: This is what it’s like to be Sharon McShurley, a Republican mayor in a Democrat town. Ugly personal comments about her and her family. Oblique threats about her safety. Vandalism to her home. Vile rumors about sex in her office with men not her husband. How does she do it? How does she get through the day? Well, there’s the prayer she says every morning. And then there’s the gun.

Here's what a Dem blog says about her:

Wed Jul 29, 2009 at 11:09:53 AM EDT

"Yesterday, the Department of Justice announced stimulus grants for local law enforcement agencies. All across the state, municipalities rejoiced, with many able to hire back new recruits that had been laid off just weeks ago. The Tribune announced that "Federal stimulus benefits South Bend cops" as 13 new officers get ready to hit the streets, and the Journal & Courier heralded the arrival of four new police recruits.

"This plan seems like a win-win for everyone. Towns and cities get millions of dollars to hire officers for the next three years. They then agree to keep these officers on an additional year after the stimulus money runs out -- and presumably, the economy has recovered such that revenues will have increased.

Well, it seems like a win-win to almost everyone. In Muncie, Republican Mayor Sharon McShurley apparently didn't get the memo:

"At this point, I would say no unless we find some way to fund the fourth year," McShurley said after receiving word that Muncie had received the grant. City officials had applied for the money through a competitive process.

The mayor was reluctant to say more about taking -- or not taking -- the stimulus money, which was awarded to 20 other Hoosier cities, including Indianapolis, Anderson and Kokomo.

Anderson -- whose police department has avoided layoffs, but grown smaller through attrition -- is receiving $1.5 million to hire six police officers. Police manpower there is at 117, three less than full manning at 120.

Anderson Mayor Kris Ockomon said Tuesday his city "absolutely intends to accept this sorely needed money."

"McShurley has quickly positioned herself as the most vulnerable incumbent mayor in the state, and that is saying something considering the plodding failure that Indianapolis Mayor Greg ballard has become. McShurley has fought a very public battle against the local fire department -- always a good idea for stellar PR -- and seems to have decided that there is no policy too unpopular for her office."

And here's another blog with a lot of very interesting links to other sites, including the complete Kernan-Shepard Report, Hoosiers for Fair Taxation, Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers, Indiana Bill Watch, 'TIF and other great information', etc.  Someone should start one of these for Anderson/Madison County.

Mmmmmmorris Long.  You know... the guy the HB quoted as having known about the coming budget shortfall (even though he miscalculated revenues by millions) and having a plan in place.  No one in the former Smith Administration can say what the plan was.  Must be top secret.
