Mopeds and Golf Carts in Anderson - a problem?

A thread at the HB HM forums brings up moped laws - with several others bringing up golf carts being driven in the city. What are the local laws for golf carts? Anything in city code? What are your thoughts on the matter? |

I believe that two mopeds caused accidents or were involved in accidents last week on the scanner, just a matter of time until someone dies. As for golf carts, pull over for faster moving vehicles and let them by. Kids should not be allowed to drive either on the streets, I don't want to sound like one of those mean, nasty women, but parents need to make sure that their children are being supervised, and not letting them go out on the road without helmets, come on, do they want that phone call saying your child has been hurt? Trust me, speaking from experience, you don't ever want that call!
I use to drive a wrecker for several years locally. I hated the moped / car calls. The mopeds really got stuck under those cars. Kids think that nothing bad will ever happen to them and that you really must go around them. They do not realize that you may not see them. As for the golf carts, they are not supposed to be on the streets at all. The slow moving vehicle signs that they use are supposed to be for moving farm implements. If the local police started ticketing and towing that would be a great thing. We have enough on the roads to worry about without golfcarts in the way.
Smells like bubble gum to me it does!

When I hear back from Chief Sparks about the next interview (hopefully soon!) I'll add this to the list of questions/topics to bring up. Thanks you two.
Anyone else?
Honest In my neighborhood a grade school child shoots up and down the street with a A.T.V. with little or no muffler. (Dad is out in the yard some time, other times he is no where to be found.)
I think if you ask the Chief about mopeds & A.T.V.'s ,,,, also have him check complaint calls about fireworks for this year.
A.P.D. was ran ragged for almost a month with calls gripping about punks and drunks shooting them off all night & all day long. It could be a case of tighting up days and time they can shoot them off. "Please Lord for the sake of all the pets, and folks that have to get up at 4:00 a.m. let them change the law back to the way it was back in 1999"
It's a quality of life issue. better to live in the city or live out in the country. How many people did the H.B. say moved away from Anderson 2,000?
Taxes, Jobs, Crime, and Firecrackers will cause you to want to get out of town. "if that ball comes in my yard one more time I'm calling the cops on you kids
You are so right ...my dog was so terrified she held going to the bathroom for two days. Fireworks are no longer beautiful. I pray for rain every night when it starts getting dark just so they won't shoot them off.

And what about loud music? There is an ordinance in Anderson for loud music (if you can hear it from 30 feet ). It just seems like it is not enforced or the fines are not big enough. And tell them stupid kids to pull up there pants and quit showing their drawers, OOPS I kind of got on a roll there.

I hate it when I see a kid holding themselves. That's disgusting.
Saw something kind of funny the other day though. There was a kid mowing the lawn...holding his pants up with one hand and pushing the lawn mower with his other hand. funny stuff right there....
What?? You can't understand what I am saying? I am speaking plain penguin!!
Photo of the week. Heh.
Man what a bunch of grumpy old farts!
I like fireworks and I am glad they changed the law. Sorry Capt. Jack. They were frequent in my neighborhood and when they bothered me form sleeping I found that a fan created enough white noise sound to dull the fireworks and they weren't a problem.
The golf carts are going to be more and more of an issue. Despite what Anderson Brent says the state is ambigous about it in the law. While they say they techinacally should not be on the roads they do plan on revisiting the issue and clearing the law up. My bet is that they become legal. Surrounding communities, all smaller than Anderson, have embraced them as viable around town transportation that reduces pollution, is quieter, and cost saving to the citizenry. The have to be registered with the local police department, have a windshield, head lights, tail lights and sometimes turn signals. You also have to be 16 to drive them. Those are generalizations and not absolutes in each case. Like it or not they will become more of an issue. The whole mess won't be sorted out until the state decides what the law regarding them is and even then the communities that are on the opposite side as the state's decision will be exerting a lot of pressure. My bet is still that they will become legal. The nice thing is that it might open the roads up to more experimental cars and cause people with the ability to do so to really get creative with their golf carts. There are a lot of modifications that could be made to one to improve safety, and performance.
