I suppose somebody will label me a fascist for asking a few questions here of the mayor, but here goes anyway.

I have just returned after being away for several months. The city looks terribly run-down from what it was last year.

It would appear that things have really gone adrift since January despite more employees on the payroll and more spending on items such as golf carts, SUVs, trolleys, etc.

My question to the Mayor: How can you justify your support of the wheel tax, and now a new income tax when it would appear to one such as me that you are NOT being fiscally responsible in either your hiring or spending activities?

What is your pre-Mayoral budget experience?

Is she not allowed to ask this? Does it have to be ran past Salmon Fan first? I thought that it was a pretty good question and I like Kris.

smells like bubble gum to me it does.

It would be a good question if it were based on facts, but it's not.  If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong because I'm getting old, this same person came here and said the same thing....I've just returned after being gone for a long time, blah, blah, blah.  Smells fishy to me.

I am neither for or against this mayor, the last mayor or any other mayor or political party. As long as they can do the job. I think this was a very good question, the thoughts that go through my mind reading this are:

More employees = Less residence = Empty Houses

Casino/Racino = Tax Dollars? = Income Tax Increase

Wheel Tax = Fix Potholes ?= Pay for New City Vehicles?

I guess some that dont like the Income Tax, Wheel Tax, could move , I guess that would equal more empty houses. More Taxes for the residents that are left, rather they pay these taxes or not.

Jens is a legit poster, I believe.

I'm going to relabel this thread for August 2008 Questions for Mayor Ockomon.

That said, not sure if I'll use that question, but we'll see. Some I've asked are nothing but rumors, but it's good to hear them dispelled.

Also, IIRC, the Mayor, in the last AFP interview, dispelled the rumor about there being more people on staff then under previous administrations...

As for the wheel tax the Mayor had nothng to say about that as that was the county! I will hold the rest of my comments as this is not the HB.

You can disagree here, but be civil about it. ;)

I have been a former poster here until I was called away...(signed up in February) -

It looks like I've offended some.  I didn't mean to.

If any of you remember me, my issue is not with this admininstration, it is with politicians in general.  I believe they should be caretakers of the citizens and that we should not give them a blank slate.

I pay heavy taxes and don't like the idea of having to pay more while politicians raise taxes without any checks and balances or without anybody asking them difficult questions.

I'll be out of here again in a few weeks.  As before, I probably won't stay in touch with this site, so I'll be out of touch again with local events when I return.

Protect your pocketbooks, friends!  The cost of living is going through the roof and we need our politicians to be looking out for your well-being rather than their own.  They are the public servants.

KPaul - Thanks for your support as I asked my question.  Don't be shy in asking difficult questions!  So many in the media no longer will do so.

You did not offend me it is just that the Mayor did not have anything to do with the wheel tax.  I have issues with this administration as I had issues with the last.  We just play nice over here so I won't go there with either administration.
