Grandma heard from the grapevine that there's going to be a charge for garbage pick-up. Anyone hear anything?

it was in the paper awhile back......said it was being thought of as a way to earn money for the city of Anderson...but it hasn't been passed yet and I think the contract with the current provider has another year to go.

Lot of people left comments on thb website.  A comment at the bottom was about golf carts.  Would be nice if the city would have used a website like prosper.com or something like that to borrow money from the people of Anderson and pay them instead of some bank.

My concerns would be, if I have to pay for my garbage pickup, can I chose the company that picks it up? And does that mean we can get rid of those bulky, ugly cans, that people leave at the curb?

But  the nice thing about those cans...My neighborhood has less nasty trash blowing around. People actually keep it a lot cleaner in my neighborhood now.  Yes the cans are ugley but half the time people didn't use cans would set it out in paper sack that dissolved when they got wet or the local pet population would forage for food. The alleys are cleaner and so are my streets.

I hated chasing trash cans. and my daughter paid for her in edgewood. She had to cart it down a long drive and hope her cans didn't blow away before she got them. I had just purchased new cans before the changeover. Funny thing they are just like the one the city uses. heavy bulky cans that don't spill or blow away..lol  And they were not cheap...$60  a piece...dang if i had just waited..lol

My grandparents cannot leave their trash cans in the alley like they have always done, and the cans are too heavy for my grandma and my grandpa's health is very poor, we offered to pull them up and down the alley, but they would rather just leave them out front so they we don't have to bother with that. As for my house, my hubby or I always put them back, my parents are the same way, but I have other family members that just leave them at the road.

In my area it is still better than torn trash bags and trash floating in my yard..and the trash pickup was alwasy on the front not the alley so it looked bad. Now i look at trash cans that at least aren't gross..;-) and they actually use them.

Also they ahve smaller cans for people who cannot haul the big ones. they look like a small kitchen trash can very small. You just need to call.
