Some of you that get the Herald Bulletin saw the ISTEP performance of Madison County schools by grade in today’s edition.
Attached is a chart of the ACSC schools compared by their grades’ performances relative to each other. It is very interesting that the school tied for best overall performance has been slated for closure while other schools with subpar performance are not being considered for closure at this time. Note that the grades by school in the top 5 have their names and rankings in green and those from 6-10 have their rankings in green. The scores of those grades by schools not in the top 10 but above ACSC average are highlighted in yellow and those below average are in red. The highest and lowest rankings by category are highlighted by color, as well.
The ACSC forums being held are the result of the efforts of several concerned parents who took it upon themselves to improve the woefully deficient communication between the ACSC and the community. Our hats off to these fine folks.
This is great information. One part that is missing (probably not available) is the change from last year, improvement or decline. I was at Southview this morning and we spoke about their scores for a moment. She was showing me where most of her classes increased the number of passing students by 10% or more, one class increased from 47% passing to 74%!!
The other thing I would like to point out...while all specific plans are off the table, if any schools end up getting closed, those students and teachers would go to another building...but, it isn't the building itself that gets the good scores. If a teacher and/or a class or even a student are doing well, they will continue to do well in a different building, just as they would do well in a different class when they move up to 5th grade from 4th grade.
just my thoughts.....BTW, my position is that if money were no object I would love to see an elementry school in every neighborhood...unfortunately that requires duplication of services that ACS can't afford right now...
President Just a parent who happens to be a member of ACSC Board of Trustees. At all times I speak only for myself as an individual. I cannot, nor will I attempt to, speak for any other member of the board or administration. No member of the ACSC Board of Trustees has any authority as an individual, the authority rests in the Board as a whole only. Sometimes I forget myself and speak as a parent only, a parent who loves and protects and is very bias toward my children.
Do we need to give this information more play on the homepage? Anyone want to drop a link over at HM pointing to it?
Thanks.
