I would like to see all the subject of "your best time in Anderson or
in life" moved here because it has soooo much information on Anderson's
history. It would be a great loss to not move it here or elsewhere.

I was around when this thread started. Great thread and lots of memories. I'm glad to see it being revived. I was raised on the farm that became Killbuck Park and was in the first group that went to Highland. Anderson and Madison Co have a lot of good memories for me.

Do you ever remember hearing the name Gola (Goldie Childs) associated with that property ?
Welcome John, I did enjoy the information that you posted on the HB, although I am too young to remember most, I would read it then call and ask my mom and dad.

I sure do. Goldie (Golda) actually owned the farm. My father merely famed it. Goldie also owned the old Childs Coal Company on...? Cincinnati Ave? It seems as though i remember they had a son (Jack?) who lived sometimes in one of the two cottages on Killbuck Creek, on the creek side of the farm?
We left the farm in 1952 (I think) and shortly after Goldie sold it to GM for a recreational facility.
If my time frame is a bit off, please forgive me. It's only been fifty years or so since I lived there.

Thank you for your kind words. Though I do like the philosophical debate, I enjoyed the "Best Times" Thread probably more than I have enjoyed cyber-conversing in a long time.
Except for a brief period in 1968 and '69 I haven't lived in Anderson since 1961. I really miss the people with their friendliness and forth rightfulness but I sure don't miss the cold winters!

My Grandmother on my Mom's side was a Childs . Goldie was my Grandma's brother and he had two other brothers , Herman and John who also owned the coal company . It was located on East Lynn street in about the 2500 block . I spent a lot of time there as a child , great memories . My Mom's sister and her husband lived on that farm too at one time in the 50's . Their last name was Hershberger .

The Hershberger's took over when we left. I have quite a few old pictures of the farm when it was in operation; the horse barn, the pig barn, the old flowing well which was in back of the pig barn and the gravel pit which was beside the main barn.
I remember the farm was bordered in front (on rangeline Road) by the Wilson Bronnenberg farm and in back by the Chester Lewis farm.

We actually have a descendant (SP?) of Chief Anderson on that thread...
Welcome aboard. :)
One of the most recent items was when Anderson Speedway had SuperTruck Racing. Looks like that will not be the case this year.
