I remember that but what about Guinn's Drug Store on the other corner of Broadway and Vineyard where they also had a soda fountain. I am sure you are too young for that.
My grandma lived out in North Anderson, so my aunt, or when we got a little older, my sisters, would walk me over there, you could get candy cigarettes that when you blew on them it looked like smoke coming out. I loved that place when I was little.
Here's a quote from Ronald Reagan: "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under."
I miss Taco Tico and Burger Chef. Sorry I don't remember all of the places that you guys are talking about. I have been to Abels, just to drive my ex home because he was too drunk, so did not get to eat.
Just last night She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed (my wife) and I were discussing how much we would like to have a couple of sliders from Hills Snappy Service (the little hole-in-the-wall place behind the old J.C. Penny store). My arteries begin to constrict just thinking about those burgers!
I grew up in Alexandria but I remember a place on Ohio Avenue across the street from Lee's video(of course it wasn't that back then) that had the BEST donuts ever. My dad used to go in there and get ubbers of day old donuts for practically nothing. Now if anyone remembers things about Alexandria....I can remember it like it was yesterday. I had such a great childhood growing up there. Wish it was like that now......oh what I wouldn't give to have the "Good Ole days" back again.
Growing up in Alex, you must have know the Meslam's (sp?) Dickie and Donny? Spend many a Friday and/or Saturday night at Skateland. After we left Killbuck we moved to Prosperity Rd (500N) about half way between Anderson and Alex. I knew several kids from Alex.
I don't remember Scampys in any other building but the one it is now, but how about Arts on Broadway before it moved to the new building, it was where the battery store is now.
Does anyone remember Arts' first pizza place, on...? 13th? It was on the corner across from Longfellow School. His Italian sausage sandwiches with peppers bring back memories.

I'm having a senior citizen moment here. Did it become Guinn's before or after it was Broadway Pharmacy? When it was Broadway Pharmacy it was run my the Cochran family. I was a friend of their son and he and I had a Friday all night job each week cleaning the store and waxing the floor.
How about a burger , fries , and a coke from the Rancho Grande drive-in or the Pink Horse ?
I've been to both but I was one of the bunch who rotated between Elmo Flatt's Alibi and Frisches most nights.
We seldom went out to the Rancho because it was out of our way. If we wanted to go to Chesterfield we'd take the old 10th St route. The Pink Horse was kind of small.
Flashbacks? I haven't a clue. But The Toast is another story. I don't know where or what it is now but in the early 50's it was an old railroad dining car on the NW corner of 13th and Main. When I came back to Anderson in the late 60's it had become a little diner in a stand alone building on the same corner. It was across the street from Sears and a service station. (Pure Oil?) I want to say it was run by Clyde Underwood but maybe he ran the Pure Station on Madison Ave. where the soapbox derby track is?
Total_Mayhem Thinks the rough waves are over for now.. Keep those Surfboards handy..

How long has Flashbacks been around?
What's the scoop on that place?
And The Toast?
I've been to both but I was one of the bunch who rotated between Elmo Flatt's Alibi and Frisches most nights.

But the Pink Horse had the best tenderloins and strawberry pie.

Time has really screwed with my memory.
