Anderson have a skatepark? I remember it was an issue in Yorktown and Muncie a while back...

It had better still be there since the last administration spent over 1/4 million on it, when they could have used the bond money from the parks dept to pay toward the bonds. From the times I have been by there after it had been open awhile it was not well used.

They have an awesome one in Knoxville they just built.  Only problem was, it was completely littered with bottles, cans, paper, etc.  They spent a ton of money on this beautiful, new skate park and didn't install the first trash receptacle.  DUH!

Heh. Thanks you two.

Shows how much I have to learn about Anderson as I skip around East Central Indiana. :)

Is it well used? Still cost money? Are they still paying for it?

I think they got a grant for it, but not sure. I remember all of the damage some of them were doing to sidewalks around the city and their excuse was they didnt have a park to do it in, it was like they were trying to justify destroying the sidewalks.

It is usually packed every time I go by that way. Bad part is that there is very little adult supervison. I have a 16 year old family member (my cousin's daughter) who hangs out there with her brothers. She told me that is the best place to get the best weed for the money and any other drug you can imagine.

She is being raised by her grandma (my aunt) and she lets those kids run wild. She is 16 and already has a felony auto theft, joy riding conviction, had an abortion at the age of 14 and her grandma lets her boyfriend spend the night with her and buys her smokes.

According to her, most of the kids who hang out there at the park are on drugs and unsupervised.

I feel that place needs more supervision. Any place where teens gather in numbers, needs to be better supervised.

Wait, is it on Cross Street off of Scatterfield a bit? I might pass it every time I go to my sister and brother in laws. Heh.

And, reading your full post, that's good info.

Any of the police care to respond? We don't seem to have a lot of calls down that way.

Captain Jack? Observer II?

Should City Hall be made aware of the problem if there is one?

(And speaking of City Hall, I'm Hoping that this week Mayor Ockomon has time for the AFP interview and our schedules don't collide....)

Capt. Jack isn't a policeman.

When the skatepark first opened last year, it had off duty police officers working security but that only lasted a few weeks (per the Smith administration not wanting to spend the $$ for security) Haven't heard much this winter, but during warm days there are numerous calls of fights there. Not sure about the drug issue, as it is only open 2 hrs while I'm working. But in all honesty, it's probably not that far off the mark. I personally think they spent way too much $ for what they got, and the amount of use it is getting. From what I have seen, I would not want my child there without adult supervision. Of course, that is most of the problem to begin with-kids not being supervised by parents.
