Propane Tank Warning

With warmer weather upon us, it is imperative that those of you who cook with grills
that use the portable propane tanks be aware of this potential new threat. Meth cooks are using portable propane tanks, emptying the propane and refilling them with anhydrous ammonia, which they need to make meth. After using the tanks, they may exchange them back at these refill stations where they are recycled, and consumers like you and I then get them. This is very dangerous as anhydrous ammonia is very corrosive and weakens the structure of the tank (which is why they exchange them). It can be very dangerous when mixed with propane and hooked up to our grills, etc. You should inspect any propane tank for any blue or greenish residue around the valve areas. If it is present, refuse to purchase that one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I checked this out on Truth or Fiction and it is TRUE!!! The other PINK meat! |

Very good advice Salmon Fan. I personally just have the tank that came with the grill refilled which is the safest way to know everything is okay, plus it is cheaper.
Where do you get it filled at? I just asked my hubby how much more gas we had, I love summer time and cooking out, I even do it in the winter.
True Value Hardware is a great place to get it refilled. That is where we take our tanks.

We were born to shine …All of us here because we believe......
Is that the one in North Anderson? I love that one, they have all sorts of neat stuff
Tru Value is also where I go. Yes they are on Broadway in north Anderson. You are right they got all kinds of goodies in there. I love that place. You can also go to Ferrell gas on the corner of 25/Arrow during the week and used to be til noon on saturday. Not sure of the hours now days.
