Let me tell you about a guy I know, who owns a very nice low mileage 73 Corvette that he purchased brand new.
With only 18,000 miles on the car, it was essentialy still a new car. That included the original tires that still looked good. One day about 10 years ago, he took the car out for a little excercise and ran it through the gears. It is a 454 4 speed car, so it is hard not to wind it up from time to time. Anyway, as he had it up well over 100 mph, one of the rear tires let go. And before he knew what was happening, the car was off the road and into a field, where it rolled over a few times, but mostly pivoting on the nose with the back end high in the air.
He survived with no injuries, the car faired a little worse, but was rebuildable thanks to the soft spring time earth. He had not given those tires a thought since they "looked" OK. Obviously age had taken its toll, but it was not obvious at a casual glance.
The car has been restored, and it has new tires on it now. The owner is far more in touch with the conditions of his tires on all his vehicles now. Things could have been far worse for the car, himself, or his family.
4-4-2, the perfect 10!
So could imported tires

There aren't mandatory annual inspections of vehicles before registration like in some states.
"Attitude is everything"
There used to be. Once a year your vehicles had to pass an inspection. Had to have a sticker in your windshield to verify your inspection. Not sure why Indiana went away from it but they did.
ALL TIRES HAVE THE DATE THEY WERE MADE ON THEM.
Speaking of tires. I have two that are constantly going flat. One has had a plug put in it recently and yet it still needs air in it at least every other day. This morning, I needed to go pick 13 up from school because she is not feeling well, and when I went to get in my van, I had a very flat front tire. Now I just aired this one up yesterday. I'm needing to find a couple of good used tires that aren't too expensive. Any ideas who is going to sell me some that will get me around town for a little longer and is reputable for selling 'GOOD' used tires??
CC, many moons ago I had a car that needed to have the front tires replaced frequently due to a major alignment problem. About every 2 months or so I was getting "new" used tires put on. I found that the small shop on 23rd just before you get to Pitt street was the best price and the best tires and the best service. However, that was many moons ago and the gentlemen working there were old then...I don't know if they are still in business or not.
But, don't you know someone who knows a bit about this kind of stuff?
PresidentJust a parent who happens to be a member of ACSC Board of Trustees. At all times I speak only for myself as an individual. I cannot, nor will I attempt to, speak for any other member of the board or administration. No member of the ACSC Board of Trustees has any authority as an individual, the authority rests in the Board as a whole only. Sometimes I forget myself and speak as a parent only, a parent who loves and protects and is very bias toward my children.
