I've been fighting an occasional miss on my '03 Ford Super Duty with the 5.4 V8.  I've tried various fuel injector cleaner additives, changed plugs, fuel filter, and even swapped out injectors.  The damn thing has never thrown a code.

This last time, after installing a set of used injectors, and running quite a bit of Seafoam through it, the problem has went away.  The injectors came off a Mustang that was getting many performance upgrades including bigger injectors.  They were in good shape, more or less.  The fuel nozzle is a different design, which I was hoping might be less prone to plugging up, if that is the problem.

The random way it has acted, has always led me back to a fuel problem, but with COP's and such, I have never completely ruled out ignition either.

I'd love to put a real distributor and carburetor on it, those I have tons of experience with, but this new crap had gotten ahead of me.

Depending on the type of antifreeze and the condition of the cooling system I would recomend a flush and change about every 4 years. before cold weather hits have a shop check not only the freezing point of the antifreeze but its condition also. this can be done with a litmus strip. have them pressurize the system and check for proper thermostat operation. Check all the belts and hoses and as the temperature changes check tire pressure as it will change with the temperatures.

Where does a private citizen dispose of used motor oil? I know back in the day we used to pour it on a stump and burn it... but I think that is frowned on now! :D

Next time you think your injectors are dirty try tech-ron. If you start getting a missfire again it may be cheaper to let a shop that can hook up to the coil on plug system do the diagnosis. You may be able to do your own repair once you are sure what is wrong with it.

a lot of shops are going to waste oil furnaces and would be glad to take your used oil. call around I am sure you will find one close. some of the parts stores will also dispose of it for you again call around. Either way you go they should not charge you for it.

I had a guy come by the house one day 20 years ago, wanting to grind the stump out front.  I said no way, its where I dump my used oil.

I now use some of it to keep the weeds down around the footer of the garage, and along the fence.
