4-11. In saluting, turn your head and eyes toward the person or flag you

are saluting. Bring your hand up to the correct position .

Just touching bill of your  hat, in one, smart

motion without any preparatory movement.

Your hand, from the finger tip to your wrist to your elbow. Will be perfectly straight.

DO NOT cup your hand. DO NOT  tuck your thumb.

When dropping the salute, bring your hand directly down to its natural position at your side, without

slapping your leg or moving your hand out to the side. Any flourish in the

salute is improper.

hand salute

4-12. The proper way to salute when  without

headgear is to raise your right hand until the tip of your forefinger touches

the outer edge of your right eyebrow (just above and to the right of your

right eye). When wearing headgear, the forefinger touches the headgear

slightly above and to the right of your right eye. Your fingers are together,

straight, and your thumb snug along the hand in line with the fingers. Your

hand, wrist, and forearm are straight, forming a straight line from your

elbow to your fingertips. Your upper arm (elbow to shoulder) is horizontal to

the ground.

I thought this information was important Not only today,9-11 but in the future, "IF" you are ever asked to render a hand salute. You can perform as sharp as a silent drill team member, at Arlington Cemetery

In the world with so many cameras one mistake could be recorded for a life time.

When my father was 70 he gave my daughter her first salute on her commissioning day. His salute to her was so perfect.I knew then what I  saw was  my father as a young Corporal in the USMC so many years ago. To  have her grandfather give her the first salute as a Marine Lieutenant was her dream.  It is inspiring to see first hand.  AAAHH  Marines in  their dress blues..wait I am getting off the subject...sorry....carry on..

No your right on target,  A proper saulte.

Today I saw (on TV) too many people (police, fire, & elected officals) who were  sloppy  with the hand salute. Maybe no one ever showed them how to hold your hand and arm in giving a salute.

My other peeve is the people who place their hand over their heart, can't make it up to the breast pocket. The hand ends up around the stomach. Again maybe no one took the time to correct them. I thought this thread could help show how to give a proper salute.

Just a little something something for Patriot Day. Helping out another person on or around 9-11

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty, to God, and my country
To obey the Scout Law
To help other people at all times
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
