Just received a reply from Dave about the Alexandria Speedway.    Here is what he said:

Hi, thee were two speedways. Unfortunately I have only one person who remembered the speedway to my knowledge and that was my father who would be 98 years old if he was still living. I found a few articles in the Alexandria Times Tribune.
There were organizational meetings in August 1922. When the actual racing started I do not know. There were races held for sure on the Fourth of July weekend in the summer of 1925.
My father remembered that the speedway was located where the present armory is in Alexandria. The track straddled Pipe Creek and on each straightaway there was a bridge. He remembered the cars were fast for their day. This speedway was named the Alexandria Speedway and the track on State Road 28 was named Armscamp and Hill-Top.
The book I wrote named Orestes has a lot of information about the northern part of Madison County. If I have not arranged already for you to download it, I will gladly do so....no charge. Just let me know.

Harold Hurst, was the one and the same "Dutch" Hurst.  He was a race promoter for many years.  He oraganized the Mutual Racing Association, which ran roadsters back in the day.  Later he was a track annoucer at Sun Valley, and Mt. Lawn.  He also had a foriegn car dealership in Muncie until the late 60's.

For those of us fortunate to meet him, he was a nice guy who loved racing.

442, I'm having a Senior Citizen Moment... What was the name of the guy who owned the Harley dealership in Muncie?  He had a big sign beside the entrance to the drive in theater on 67, just outside of Muncie.

That's not who i was thinking of jethro.  This dealership was in the 50's and 60's and it was some guys name. I just can't remember who.

Harley dealer in Daleville?  When I left Anderson the ONLY thing I remember being there was Story's Truck Stop. The last time I was in Anderson Story's was gone, I-69 had been completed and there was a Pilot T/S roughly where Story's used to be.

No, I was thinking about the 50's. There is/was a drive-in theater on 67 just before you entered Muncie and the sign advertising the shop was right beside the entrance to the drive-in.  I want to say it was "Mike... Something?"  I know that later on they had a HD dealership between Daleville and Muncie.

Two things I miss down here; Dunkin Doughnuts and White Castle.  When I was a kid it was always a treat to stop and get a 12¢ White castle whenever we went to Indy. I remember when they went to 15¢.

We have Krystal's which is kind of like a White castle but not really.

We were supposed to get a Dunkin Doughnuts down here this year but that's apparently been put on hold. They have stopped working on the site.

Dunkin Donuts, I hope you all have a real good economy. Ours here is like way to expensive for what they are in my oppinion. White Castle has some awesome onion chips and cheese sticks.
