 Fishing reports for 2009

 2009 fishing reports

Just like last year,, this thread is to share fishing information. Where you fished,  if the fish were biting, "tips or hints" you would like to pass along.

Any information about the lake, stream, pond, price of gasoline, road construction on the way to the fishing hole,,, "that could help make the next persons fishing trip just a touch better".

Photos of children fishing and kids at heart are also welcome.

See Ya on the water

Summitt Lake March 9th.

Air temp. was 53* the water temp. was 41* the big ramp was full of trucks and boat trailers at 8:45 a.m. so I put in at the little ramp. Only a few boats around that part of the lake.

Spring time fishing,, you want to fish the warmest water you can find. That would be on the northern shore line because, the sun hits that bank longer in the day. With all the boats on the lake, the northern bank was  packed with fishing boats.

Plan "B" I found some shallow water with lots of rocks on the south side of the lake. The rocks will hold warmth from the sun and also hold crawdads. Most the fish I marked on the fish finder were still in water around 12 feet deep. They looked like they were just about ready to come shallow and start  building nest for the spawn. Because of the cold water the fish arn't ready to chase anything fast. So Spring time fishing you want a bait that moves

 S l o w,,,, I threw a jig with a crawdad color, I fished till 2:00 p.m. before I got my first fish

  large mouth March 09

Just to change things up, I started throwing a jerk bait.  I got slammed,,, My rod tip went down into the water, I had a monster. I could not control the fish. (if it was a fish)  Sometimes you fowl hook a big cat fish or carp they pull  so hard you can't turn them around. My fishing line was 12 pound test. The line was ready to snap,, what ever it was,,  it kept pulling more and more line from my reel. Then I had slack line.

RATS I just lost a $15.00 lure,,,, as I cranked in the fishing line I still could feel the jerk bait What ever it was it didn't break my line or take my lure. When I got the bait back to the boat I saw, I had one hook that had bowed out on the bait. Good news for me and the critter.

Sometimes you focus too much on the water and not the things around you. as I started getting back to where I caught the first fish, this is what I saw on the shore line.

 cut wood   bucky beaver

Lots of cut wood in the area I was fishing.

("Bucky Beaver" could have had my bait stuck in his  pelt.)

As the weather starts to warm up Next Week,,, the bass should start back into the shallows. This cold snap will give them lock jaw,, outside temps now are 28* It's still early March we have lots of time. Prime  time fishing is only a week or two away. So I'll see Ya on the water

OK, found the Cat fish photo, and yes That is (¹me) holding the big booger...

No net so, the ole fist in the mouth to grab him, as we were just jigging for Crappie, and Throwing cast baits for Bass..

It was just before Sun up.. Had a ultralight laying beside me cast just off shore...

Caught him on 4 pound ultralight line and a small open bail just off shore around 4 foot.. had a bobber on drop of about 2 1/2 foot with a Night crawler....

He ran the drag out.. I re-adjusted it.. took about 15-20  minutes to get him in.. he took more line at a time than I could reel in...

Did not want to break the line.. so the fight went on...

We put him on a stringer till light showed well enough for a photo...

He returned to the Pond to grow a bit and give fight another day...

¹ fish face to keep identity to low or minimum..
