We did not catch a single fish, not even a bite today, my son said he saw some jump across the water. Wait, does catching the tree or floating limbs count?

Tuesday & Wednesday temps will be in the 70*'s ,,, Plans are to hit Summitt early spend the day.
Then Wednesday walk the creek behind the house. Today I saw some good size fish on little Killbuck. I have some smaller frogs I think the bass will hit in the creek.
I got to fish all day on SaintPatrick'sDay. I went back to Summitt Lake. The air temp was 70* with strong winds all day. The water Temp was 44* Most the day I threw the jig trying to get a bass to think it was a crawdad. "Nutin Honey" was the game they were playing.
The magic water temp. is 50*~55* that is when Mother nature tells the fish It's time to make whoopie, and they get a new outlook on life. They also start to attack faster moving baits,, just a few more warm days we will have perfect conditions.
These guys will make up for not eating much in the cold winter months.
I went back into one of the coves just to get out of the wind. Summitt was farm property 20 some years ago. When they flooded the farm land they left most the trees standing. With all the years of ice cutting into the bark,,,, all the standing trees have died. Its easy to find stumps on that lake. A good pattern in the spring time is find wood,,find bass,,. On my way back to the cove I saw some fish on my fishfinder hanging around a stump field. They were suspending about 10 feet below the water and about 10 feet off the bottom.
I picked up a spinning rod with a sinko worm tied on. The sinko worm falls slow past the nose of the fish. (It is kind of a reaction bait) Remember when your driving your car,,, maybe speeding just a touch. Your thinking about a thousands different things. Then you see a police car hiding in the bushes. Without thinking,,,, your foot taps the brake peddle. That is called a reaction.
The fish is suspending (daydreaming) and a sinko worm drifts past his face. BLAMhe should nail it. ButnotonSaintPatricksDay,,, the fish are in a funk,,, nothing turns them on today. I put down the spinning rod and pick up a casting rod with a burnt orange raddle trap tied on. I start casting in and around all the wood trying for a bite. I get a faintbump ,,,set the hook, and feel the fish pulling back. WOW,,, after six hours I get my first fish. I swing the bass into the boat he comes un hooked. He flops twice in my boat seat,,, "then almost posed for the camera." After the picture, I put him back into the lake. The male will protect the nest "if" they are starting to spawn. Bluegill will eat every egg moma bass has layed. The male bass has a big job in the spring time. If your going to keep fish to eat,, try not to over do it in the spring. Youeatonebass and the bluegilleat a thousand baby bass.
Here is the picture of the future poppa to be bass.

If you want to wade Killbuck Creek,, it has tons of fish and other critters to make your day.
My first fishing tip of the day is,,,
1.Travellight if your fishing rivers or streams. You will last longer. What ever your age is,,, walking in water will wear you down. You don't need a lot of gear to weigh you down. One short rod, (a short rod is easer to cast under the tree limbs) a few replacement lures. One bottle of drinking water, sunglasses and a hat.
2. Tip number two. If you walk a mile fishing,,, you have to walk a mile back.
Pace yourself, pick apart every fishing hole before you move to another deep spot.
3 Always watch your step. Large rocks, slick moss, tree roots, muck, and deep holes await your every step. Slide your feet as you walk,,, so you can feel the bottom.
It is normal to fish going up stream. All the mud and muck you kick up,,, will wash down stream behind you. And,,, the fish always face up stream to see what kind of food floats past them. When you target your cast,, throwpast the stump or big rock. Then work your bait back towards you,,, past the stump or rock. The fish will lay in those areas to stay out of the strong currents, and to ambush crawfish, snakes, bugs, and minnows.
I saw tons of bluegill, baby bass, catfish. LOTS of suckers, and only a few carp. I caught several chubs and shiners. Suckers, Carp, Chubs and Shiners are called ruff fish. People normally pass on eating those kinds of fish.
But Raccoons & water birds can live on them for ever.
If you don't catch any fish,,, the nature sightings our,, "Outofthisworld". The water in Killbuck is flowing at a good rate making it a touch more clean than slower moving water that tends to scum up.
In the trees I saw coons, squirrels, blue herons,,,,, Deer tracks cover the bank side. Every one of those animals is drawn to the creek to eat and drink.
I'm going to fish it again in the next day or so. This summer I want to hit some of the beaver dams. That beaverwater was over my waders in spots. I know some big bass are hanging around in the deeper water. Just waiting to makemy day.

So who you been talking to in my family? I think you threw that one in just for me, I am terribly clumsy! I still enjoy your fishing reports and the pictures, so I will wait patiently for news ones! Thanks!
