This is the back water of Reno lake. The Reno gang back after the civil war were the first to rob trains long before Jesse James thought about it. Their farm property is out side of North Vernon. Our family aquired the farm back in the early 70's
I've never found any of the buried loot from the bank and train jobs,, But I have found a lake that holds some super size bass in the early spring.
The water was down about three feet. All the good stumps were high and dry, cat tails were just starting to turn green. ( green vegetation will produce oxygen for the lake,, dead vegitation will take oxygen fron the water. The only target I had to cast to was the shade under the trees and some branches that were sticking up out of the water.
I kept getting bumps on a grub I was throwing but no solid hits, I switched to a sinko worm nothing, I switched up to a swim bait. My fifth cast I had my first bass (and last bass) oftheday.
I down sized my hook to see if I could catch what was giving me the short strikes.
The lake had a ton of blue gill. (They were hitting on a bass bait.) Even though I was targeting big bass,, I had a ball catching the pan fish, oops sorry ColtsFan,,,,, I shouldn'thavesaidpanfish.
Reno Lake,, always a good place for a getaway after a suprise visit to North Vernon. Even a starpacker could break this bank.
thank you cjs those are great pics i love them there is one thing comes to me snakes !!!!!!!!!! years ago i would have jumped in but now i think about snakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Animals are banned in Arizona from mating publicly within 1,500 feet
of a tavern, school, or place of worship. (Better get those guppys home quick).
In California it is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a
moving vehicle, unless your target is a whale.
Idaho residents cannot fish from a giraffe’s or camel’s
back.
It is illegal in Ohio to get a fish drunk. Also in this state do not
go fishing for whales on a Sunday, It’s a no, no.
Don’t get caught catching crabs in Sarasota, Florida.
In Oklahoma and Seattle, Washington it is illegal to
carry a fishbowl or aquarium onto a public bus because the sound of the splashing water
may disturb other passengers.
It is illegal to catch a fish in Kansas with your bare hands.
You may not catch a fish in Pennsylvania with any body part except
your mouth. Also dynamite cannot be used to catch fish.
Tennessee law says it is illegal to catch fish by lasso. (Too bad, it
would make it so much easier to carry them back to the trailer park).
It’s illegal to fish from horseback in Utah.
In Muncie, Indiana it’s a crime to carry fishing tackle into a
cemetery.
It is illegal in Vermont to whistle underwater. (Not to mention
pointless, stupid and down right impossible).
Montana wins the prize in my opinion for stupid laws. It’s
illegal for married women to go fishing alone on Sundays, and illegal for unmarried women
to fish alone at all. It is also against the law for a man to knit during fishing season.
This one is not fish related but definitely worth a mention… It is illegal to have a
sheep in the cab of your truck without a chaperone. (There go my Saturday night plans).
Across the pond
Scotland- You cannot fish at all on Sundays.
AND MY MOST FAVORITE OF ALL
Liverpool, England- It is illegal for a woman to be topless in public
except as a clerk in a tropical fish store.

Tuesday was another rain out, Soooo Wednesday with the cold snap became the day to re'fish Lake Lemon.
Cold northwinds blew all day. "It was soooo cold" Johnny Carson voice,,, I kept seeing blackboard chalk falling from the sky, splashing in the water. Then a couple of chunks landed in the boat. Itwassoooocold,,,, bird poop was freezing on the way down.
I started out on the sunny side of the lake. The water temp's were 48* Coldwater you need to fish slow so,,, I threw a jig most the morning. First fish came out from a boat dock in about 2 feet of water around 10:00 a.m.
This fish had a lot of fight ,,stood on his tail several times as I brought him in. That's good news because they are coming out of the cold winter "slow moving mode". They will hit a faster moving bait.
I stayed in the shallow water hiting coves and cuts.
Rocks wll hold heat from the sun, and hold crawdads. This is where I got my last fish of the day.
This fish hit the crank bait hard, but didn't fight. I still don't like to take a fish photo on the carpet " the carpet" will remove some of the fish's protictive slime. He didn't flop around in the boat so I got a quick shot of him. When I put him back in the lake, he swam away like "no big deal" He did act like he was still in the "cold mode."
Lake Lemon is a deep lake, and a nice size lake ,,, It will take a week or two of warm weather to get the water temps into the 60* range. 55* is good but 60* is perfect for fishing. When I pulled out at 6:00 p.m. the water temp. had reached 50*
The lake is down about a foot (that's bad) because most of the buck brush is now out of the water. The female bass will go up in the buck brush roots to fan out a nest to lay her eggs. I saw several large bass in water that wasn't a foot deep. "Mother doesn't sleep" the bass are starting to move up into the shallows, to start the cycle of life all over again.
This is what Lake Lemon looked like at 7:30 a.m. Yesterday morning
We held up the start for about an hour, safety,, safety,, safety,, first.
It would be too easy to run into another boat, or run a ground with all the fog. Also Lake Lemon was holding a three college female rowing contest. I.U., Ohio, & Ky. were all on the water yesterday morning.
The rowing teams were also waiting for the fog to lift. We spoke to the college safety dir. & thought it would be best for the bass boats to idle to our fishing spots, then the rowing contest could start whenthefogdidclear.
This picture was taken at 10:45 a.m. around 11:15 it started to burn off.
The air temps got below freezing Friday night into Saturday morning. The water was 48* after the fog cleared out, we had sunny sky the rest of the day. The sun put the bass tight to cover. Jigs, lizzards, & tubes were the things to throw. A few fish were caught on red or burnt orange crank baits, also some bass were caught on white spinner baits. Total fish caught were 66. Bigbass for the day was 4.12 pounds.
At 4:30 the water had warmed up tp 52*
To keep the fish alive befor we weigh them in,,, each boat has a "fish bag" we keep the fish in what is called a livewell in the boat,, then place the fish in this plastic bag.
We walk the fish up to the scales. take him out of the bag, weigh them, then put the fish back in the fish bag. Then take the fish back to the lake. It's a for every one involived . The fish is recorded, for "Lake Lemon D.N.R. information", the fish is returned to the lake un harmed, & a "kid" fishing with his dad can catch a lunker some day.
Starting monday it sounds like ice fishing reporting again,,, SNOW in April,,, welcome to Indiana.
