March 13th. Summmit Lake, State Park (just North of New Castle)
About 30 boats on the water when I arrived. I waited till the warmest part of the day to start.Time was 1:00 p.m. when I put in. Air temps. were 55*~60* all day. Water temps were 38* all over the lake. (Most the time on the north banks, the water will be a bit warmer because of the angle of the sun hiting the banks,,, not today)
Fish are cold blooded so they will find the warmest water in the early spring,, A bit like college kids going to Fla. on spring break,,, & they will also start feeling Frisky in the shallow warm water. (Like college kids.)
Summit Lake has several cuts and coves that produce good size bass. Each and every cove today still had Ice in them. The ice is thick enought to support flocks of geese. We will need some rain and more sun to finish melting all the ice.
The wind at Summit today was out of the South a good 15 M.P.H. on different times I could see white caps all across the lake. But the ice & wind didn't stop the Walleye bite. For the past week several Good size Walleye have been caught.
If your a pan fisherman or bass person it's still too early,, save some gasoline stay home. If your into Walleye get out there A.S.A.P. Dress warm, your going to get wet from over spray. the water color looks real good.
Don't buy a 2008 fishing license yet,, last years license is still good till April 1st. If your in a boat you will have to have a 2008 State Lake sticker on your boat. No one will be working the State Park gate till the 2nd or 3ed week of April. You are allowed to enter the park at no cost till then.

With gasoline prices going out of sight, and only a little time to fish. I thought a local "Fishing Report" thread would save all of us some time and money. This is a open thread everyone is welcome,,, no matter what kind of fishing you enjoy,,, or where you like to fish. Lakes, rivers, or ponds the more information that we can share,,,
It could help you plan your trip, or maybe you would want to wait a day or so before
playing hooky from workspending a day on the water.
