There's a really good job opening there I'm thinking of applying for. I looked up the general stats, but does anyone know if there are good schools, things to do, what it's like, is it growing, etc.? |

I don't know anything about Terre Haute, except that it's near Shakamak (sp) State Park. Boating, camping, swimming, etc. Love it there. But the rest, I reckon you can look up the statistics for the education for there, the same way people have been doing for the Anderson schools. And maybe check with the chamber of commerce to see how they promote their businesses and city.
Thanks, CC. I wanted to get some insight from real people, not the rehearsed crap you get from every Chamber across the country.

Can you check things like the unemployment rate? Should be on in.gov website.

I've looked at all that stuff. I'm asking if anyone has any first-hand knowledge about the city. Know anyone who lives there? What they think of it. That's what I want to know.

Sippy, I like the fact that it has Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. I would try to investigate living near one of those areas because they could have a very beneficial effect on area schooling, particularly if they have an education department. I think ISU and St. Mary's probably do, but I'm not sure about Rose-Hulman, which I'm told is a prestigious institute.
Avoid living near Terre Haute International Airport, if you can.
If you've read Wikipedia, you are forewarned about the creosote smell, so you might want to research the prevailing winds to avoid living downwind of it.

But what do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations...This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution .~ John Adams, letter to H. Niles, February 13, 1818
I talked to a friend of mine, his son attends Rose Hulman, his son (21) loves the area, and plans on trying to find something around there when he graduates instead of moving back here to work in Indy. He says that it is a very clean, friendly place.
Does that help at all? I will keep asking around.
