  1. Flaming Monkeys Erupt From Man’s Anus!

  2.  Accounting Procedures Modified
  3. The Official Christian Bashing Thread

  4. Dental Hygienist Symposium In Town
  5. Door To Door Salesperson Annoys

What is a title supposed to do?

Each day those of us in cyberspace read thousands of them; from forum topics to the headlines on the web site news, the title to a given piece is what attracts you to read more, isn’t it? And isn’t the title of a given piece the first shot a given author has at attracting the attention of readers as they scan the web pages they visit, so isn’t it sort of an unwritten rule that the title should be representative of what is contained within the topic or article?

If you visit a web page and see several titles all vying for your attention and trying to entice you into clicking on them, what are you most likely to click on? Things that interest you, or evoke an emotion, whether positive or negative, are by far the most popular from what I know; even if they aren’t well written or thought out. Take a look at the above fictional titles; which one you would be most likely to open first?

Please post your answers to the following questions: (Yah don’t have to but the information would be very useful).

Which topic would you click on first and why?

Which topic would you click on last and why?

What would be your expectations surrounding what you would find inside the topic you chose first?

Please rate each topic title based upon the level of offensiveness it evokes within you and expand if you care to,( with 10 being highly offensive, and 1 being basically meaningless surrounding offensiveness).

 Topic 1 =

Topic 2=

Topic 3=

Topic 4=

Topic 5=

Thank you for participating in this study! Your input will be of great assistance to me (and hopefully others) when considering the title to any future topics!

Which topic would you click on first and why?

#1 - because I've never seen a flaming monkey, much less one coming out of somebody else's 6!

Which topic would you click on last and why?

#2 - Because accounting gives me a headache and dental hygienists are usually cute.

What would be your expectations surrounding what you would find inside the topic you chose first?

A detailed description of the event, and hopefully some pictures.

Please rate each topic title based upon the level of offensiveness it evokes within you and expand if you care to,( with 10 being highly offensive, and 1 being basically meaningless surrounding offensiveness).

 Topic 1 = 5 (Only cause I bet that hurt, otherwise it's a 2)

Topic 2= 10. Like I said, it gives me a headache!

Topic 3= 4 - only because I know I'm going to be preached at somewhere in all of this by someone.

Topic 4=1- already said why.

Topic 5= 7 - I hate door to door sales reps! They annoy me!

Which topic would you click on first and why?

I would HAVE to go with number one #1 - because, like palehorse, I too, have NEVER seen a flaming monkey, much less one coming out of any ANUS...so, that WOULD be an attention grabber.....

Which topic would you click on last and why?

I would have to say it would be a toss up between....#2 and #5....- all though accounting procedures can be quite fullfilling, the modification of such procedure can be a little tiresome....I will probably wait for the movie to come out.

What would be your expectations surrounding what you would find inside the topic you chose first?

Nothing MORE or nothing LESS than a flaming monkey erupting from a man's anus....

Please rate each topic title based upon the level of offensiveness it evokes within you and expand if you care to,( with 10 being highly offensive, and 1 being basically meaningless surrounding offensiveness).

Topic 1 = 9 (If a poor little monkey, that was in flames, erupting out of a man's anus, is NOT somewhat offensive, I would think there are some issues that need to be dealt with.....)

Topic 2= 2. (Hard to find anything offensive...............painfully boring maybe, but not offensive)

Topic 3= 2 - (Being a Christian, I have become used to being BASHED....I would rather KNOW up front what it is all about, and be prepared and ready to defend, if I felt compelled to, than to go into another thread be bashed, OFF topic.)

Topic 4=1- (Even though I have a real fear of Dentist, the Hygienist's, like the horse said, are usually pretty cute)

Topic 5= 10 - I find anyone, who knocks on my door, to waste my personal time, to hear a bunch of lies and whose MAIN reason for being there is to get into my billfold......is extremely offensive!!!)

Which topic would you click on first and why?

#5 - because I've recently had a relative scammed by a door-to-door salesperson and I'd like to be prepared for the b*stard.

Which topic would you click on last and why?

#3 - Because a thread overtly dedicated to bashing something like that would be a waste of my time, imo. However, a thread dedicated to bashing Ahmadinejad and Komenei would be great.

What would be your expectations surrounding what you would find inside the topic you chose first?

Someone would think the saleman was acting the fool and I'd wonder what was going on and how creatively the situation was handled.

Please rate each topic title based upon the level of offensiveness it evokes within you and expand if you care to,( with 10 being highly offensive, and 1 being basically meaningless surrounding offensiveness).

Topic 1 = 1 (I don't care about flaming monkeys, but flaming idiots is a different matter)

Topic 2= 2. Not an accountant, but I would wonder what was trying to be accomplished.  We all know about creative accounting, don't we?

Topic 3= 1 - It's not offensive to me because I'm not a christian, but I don't care to see them bashed just for being christians.  If they're claiming to be christians and are blatantly overlooking christian principles, then I might participate in calling them out about it.  We had several of these types on the old HM forum and they were idiots.

Topic 4=1- boring.

Topic 5= 5 - There are times when I've invited these people in just to weird them out.  I've gotta be VERY bored to do that, but it's a fun sport for the off day.

NP, Palehorse. Glad to help.  You got some topics in mind?

Yeah. . . but I want some input to consider before doing so. . . I wouldn't want to offend the masses, so to speak. . .

Hmmm.  I try to be equally offensive to everyone.  I think I've succeeded, but there's always room for improvement.
