Guess I better apolgize now for my remark about one of my other favorite nuts but that is what I was always told they were called. I now think they are called brazilian nuts but not sure. Just don't wan't to offend anybody.
lol as growing up and even in adult life I never knew their real name but dang are they good. Just a pain in the butt to crack without them falling apart.
I dont know how many you all would want, or how far to travel, but if you look at Craigs List in Indy and some in Charubusco?, there are several ads, for free walnuts. Might make a trip worth while??
Brazil Nuts are tasty indeed. Kind of sweet and oily. They are hard to find in shell anymore. One of my other favorites are hickory nuts. You can never find them for sale in a store and they are ten times harder to get out of the shell. The husk on the other hand is SO much easier than dealing with a walnut shell.
PD: You have probably waited too long for the hickory nuts. They were falling 4-5 weeks ago; the squirrels have pretty well squirreled them away. Don't wait too long on the walnuts; they're mostly off the trees, and those pesky rodents will have them eaten or buried before long. Mmmm... hickory nut brownies-- the best in the world!
CYBER WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT YOU MAKING BROWNIES,YOUR BROTHERS CAN'T EAT THEM THEY WILL GO NUTS WITH THAT STUFF YOU PUT IN THEM.IT IS A LAW IN IND NO SMOKING OR BAKING IT IN BROWNIES.NOW YOU BRING THEM TO MOMMA YOU HEAR ME BOY!!!

To be correct..
It is not length of life, but depth of life.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
How a Man plays the game shows something of his character
How he loses shows all of it..
Sorry, did not see your correction...

I think it is CG that has them come pick them up but it is too much work for me for some nuts if you read the whole thread.

Indeed! Hickory nut brownies ROCK!!! I supposed I'll beat around the old Nicholson File area. There are gazillions of hickory trees there.
