Fish oil capsules pack same omega-3 punch as fish

By Anne Harding

Fish oil capsules and fatty fish do an equally good job of enriching the blood and other body tissues with healthy omega-3 fatty acids, new findings suggest.

But the findings can't be interpreted to mean that capsules and fish are equally good for the heart, Dr. William S. Harris, who was involved in the research, told Reuters Health. "There are things that can change the blood lipids but don't do anything for the heart and vice versa," said Harris, who is with the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls.

FYI:If you store them in the freezer and take them frozen, they are easier to swallow and keep you from getting fish breath.

Another benefit not mentioned in the story for people who choose to take fish oil capsules as opposed to eating salmon , would be the effect it would have on supply and demand for salmon patties , thus making it more affordable for Irish and I to have a mutiple patties at a more affordable price. Another win/win!

You can have mine.  I wonder if sardine patties would be any better, considering they'd be packed in olive oil.

2WARNING ADDENDUM: Fish oil is not an acceptable substitute for silicone lubricants, either. Federal law does not prohibit me from explaining this, but let's just leave it at the level of failed science experiment.

My mom took them for a while for cholesterol or something. I forget; she has so many ailments lately that I can't keep track :( ... anyway, whatever it was for, she had tests run again recently and the fish oil apparently didn't work. She was so upset. She hated taking them.

Fish oil is wonderful for combatting depression and high blood pressure.

So is marijuana - but I wouldn't recommend it!
