For the last few years at our home Winter time was hard for the Girls to not get to play outside as much. So Big Daddy, Total_Mayhem came up with the ideal to help them pass the time, Also, Educate them about our Friends of Nature. During the winter local birds need Food, Shelter, Water.
We Put out feeders for them, heated water baths, shelter to combat the cold. This was a great help with the Winter Blues for the girls feeling confined to the Home most of the time. Photos were taken, Birds Identified, logged & education about our local bird population filled their minds. Hours can be spent watching these little Nature dwellers, performing the everyday task of survival in the Harsh Indiana Winter World.
Do you feed the birds?
Enjoy passing the time learning about Nature? Feel good to help our small Woodland creatures? Drawl in different species to inter react with one another?

Great thread idea Total!
Yea me & my daughter really do enjoy both the local flora as well as the local fauna.
We've several species of birds & bats which hang out around our homestead which we really enjoy watching, along with all sorts of other assorted critters like squirrels, rabbits, groundhogs & raccoons (who have to be extremely careful because our dogs will rip them to shreds if they ever manage to catch one).
Here are a few photos of our robin nest from last spring.
The Car parking can become a problem I do know that.. LOL
OK, for a few photos of the last few years...
This male had Showed up before the Female did, think he was scouting food for his lady, went home and gave her directions, as you can see took her a little time to follow the Males Sloppy directions to get to the food by the cold snow around. He found our food offering while the Grass was still green
Jan 15th 2008 our first female Cardinal showed up we were very happy to see another one of Indiana's State birds show at our Feed station..

Richard great photos, add what we all can...
OK, a couple more of our visitors..
Jan 14th a Female downy wood pecker showed up, she went home told her guy hey, free food and the Mayhem Home.. Female Downy wood peckers do not have the top red head that the little males have..
This little Downy wood pecker showed on Jan 24th 2008, You can tell he is a male from the red on his head..Only took 10 days for her to tell him about her food stash find, maybe better directions were given by the lady downy than the male cardinal to his girl..lol

OK, Thread died,
Pushing it back up to the top...
Ran a few errands and grabbed lunch, With a well known AFP figure.. More on that later.. back to a few more photos..
Feb 14th this little Junco came by for a visit.. they are smaller than a sparrow and a quick little flier, they do come together in a small flock, I think a couple are look outs for larger predators for the ones feeding.. they like ground feeding better than hanging on the feeder..
Here is another Junco a couple days later
Been trying to get a good photo of this years visitor of a small Black Capped Chickadee but he/she is fast maybe soon. but do have a few more to add from the last couple years visitors..
