WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL MY MOM AND I HAD COIN BOOKS WE HAVE SAVED ,I HAVE TOLD MY GRAND SON LITTLE MAN THIS COINS ARE ALL HIS.SO I'M STILL GETTING FOR HIM . WE HAVE ONE THAT IS OLD IT'S CALLED PILLAR DOLLAR AND PIECE OF EIGHT HAS BEEN GIVEN A PLACE IN ROMANTIC FICTION EDUNEQUALLBY ANY OTHER COIN. OK THE ONE IN THIS BOOK IS 1766 BUT I HAVE ONE THAT SAYS 1748 DO YOU HAVE ANY BOOKS THAT SHOWS IT ,I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IT SAYS.
US currency or coins, I may have a book or two about them. I am not familiar with a Pillar dollar. I did a search and it says it is a Spanish coin. There are people in the club that know a lot more than what I know and there is a guy named Herb from around Ft. Wayne and Ray Lockwood from Marion that I think is a expert on foreign coins.
If you would like to know more about your coin you can have the Coin dealers to look at it and see if they could share information with you about any coin/currency.
If you cannot make it to the coin show on Sunday then the Madison County Coin Club meets the 3rd Monday of the month at 7 pm at the 663 Union Hall which on the corner of 29th and Madison Avenue. You do not have to be a member to come and join us at our meetings. http://madisonccc.tripod.com/index.htm
The other option is see Steve at Coin Express which is located at 2018 Mounds Road.
(This is next to the old Frisch's at the Mounds Mall). The store hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm.

I do not think I have the coins you are talking about. I have "A Guide Book of United States Coins" which is nicknamed the "Red book", because it is red/read. The Madison County Coin club did donated Red books to each of the county libraries this past year.
MY RED BOOK IS OLD AND IT IS THE 11TH ED IT'S OLD ALSO IT'S IN THERE IT UST SAYS THE SPANISH MILLED DOLLAR IT'S CALLED THE PILLARDOLLER OR PIECE OF EIGHT IT WAS THE CHIF COIN OF AMERICAN CONOLISTS.THAT IE WHAT MY BOOK SAYS .

I learned something new. It states the Spanish dollar, or piece of eight, was widely used and familiar to everyone in British America colonies and that is where the word dollar was adopted officially. If I read this correct a Very Fine could be valued at $175, but you would have to find a buyer.
I was not understanding at first, but now I do. Thanks for the lesson. I like it when my brain gets fluffed!
As a kid collecting coins "we" were always on the look out for a 1909 Vdb penny... Now days whenever I spot a "wheat penny" I flash back to those days.
With a paper route you got to look at a ton of change. Coin collecting is good for you & is fun. Thanks for the post about the show
