Few specifics
Obama has detailed few specifics that he is for and against, and did not break any new ground at the event. He said he won't run roughshod over Congress with a "my way or the highway" approach and is "happy to steal other people's ideas."

Government ownership of private enterprises (GM, e.g.) with the inevitable executive pay caps followed by universal healthcare creating life-threatening delays for MRI's and CAT's equal doctors graduating from medical school to work for government-mandated salary levels since wealth is a crime against the proletariat.  A recipe for disaster.

Obama's entire 'plan' for economic stimulus is nothing more than an unabashed redistribution of wealth which rewards those who fail to achieve success with entitlement$ extracted from exce$$ive taxation on the profit$ generated by the succe$$ful.  Obamanomics.

Too many big buck CEO's opposed to this for it to ever happen. Think Hillary Care. It's not going to fly.

I hope you're right, Braveheart.  Not because I don't want to take care of retired auto workers who've just lost chunks of their medical benefits (like my Dad), but because the U.S. is so in hock to the Chinese already that I don't think we can stand any more.  We just don't have the money. Printing it won't make us richer. We need to find ways to help business create more wealth and more jobs so that we can pay more taxes to take care of what needs to be done for those who deserve a helping hand.  I'm not going to debate who qualifies for the helping hand; we need to fix the other problem first.

We're gonna spend a trillion dollars to save some money on health care.

Yeah, and the stimulus was going to put people back to work.

We don't have a problem with our health care system.  What we have, I think, are people who confuse affordability with availability and have a " free health care is my right" mentality.  That mentality is fostered by a president who thinks giving my tax dollars, along with those of millions of other hardworking, self-sufficient people, to those who drive old clunkers so they'll be inspired to buy a new, high mpg car is a good way to stimulate the economy.  No, good healthcare is available to all, just like any other commodity,  if we wish to buy it.  I have good insurance which I pay a healthy premium to get.  I also pay a healthy copay, as well.  That's my choice.  But, if I choose not to spend the money for insurance, why is it my neighbor's responsibility to fund my healthcare?

I will probably be assailed for being a heartless conservative but, now that we have a Congress that approved giving taxpayer money in the form of $4,500 'incentives' to people who drive old clunkers so they'll go out and buy new, high mpg cars, it's obvious our problem is not in our hospitals or doctors' offices, it's in our government.  We have a president that is playing to the 'gimme, gimme' set as part of his plan to socialize this country.  While I'm glad to see a portion of my taxes pay for the healthcare, housing and sustenance of those who can't provide for themselves due to physical or mental limitations, I don't want my tax dollars funding programs that penalize achievers while rewarding those who lack ambition or pride.

The U.S. Government provides two health insurance plans, Medicare and Medicade. These account for about 40% of the total in-patient and out-patient services. So the US already controls 40% of this market. What is wrong with these programs that won't service the 15 Million un-insured that have no other access to insurance?
As a side note, the 45 - 50 million without insurance breaks down to about 1/3 having access but choosing not to participate (mostly the 20's and 30's y.o. with good jobs but elect out of insurance programs to keep the money) and 1/3 with decent jobs but do not have access to employer plans, and the other 1/3 as those with no means to access insurance. Although they have mulitple opportunities to access health care.
So back to the top. Since we have these two 'public' plans that have enrollment restrictions, why not just change the qualifiers and allow more people access to these plans? Better yet, take the third government plan (that which is designed for congressmen and governement employees) and allow those that need insurance to access this?
But, how to pay for it all. During the campaign I heard of plans to streamline and make government more effective. So close the post office and channel that money into health care. We have several very competent private providers of package movement systems. Many people use the internet for information exchange anyway. The subsidized postal service is a dinosaur and should go. I don't know the annual budget for the post office but I am willing to bet it would make a substantial dent in the dollars needed to expand Medicare coverage to those in real need.
