But Hannibal, how would the bigwigs send their invitations to their weddings and their fancy parties? How would we get authentic non-Photoshopped tickets to Inaugural events from our congressperson? How would grandchildren send thank-you notes to their non-computerized grandparents for the birthday checks?

Alternative health care/preventative health care needs to be a bigger part of our lives.
Todays insurance isn't health insurance as much as it is typically "sick" insurance.
If we would eat better (myself included) and pay attention to our bodies, look into chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, vitimins and suppliments we would all be better.
The mail would still go through, just without federal subsidies. I'll bet between UPS, FedX and DHL they could compete for the business. I wouldn't mind spending an occasional dollar to send a card or letter. That suits me more than spending a portion of my taxes on all letter delivery. The buildings and current employees that are really needed will retain their jobs. The inefficiencies will surface and can go away. The 2006 budget for the post office was 69 Billion. That's a good start and a strong message to the government sector to justify the dollars or allow it to be diverted to better programs.
I doubt this closing of the post office is an idea with legs. My real point is that the feds have three health insurance plans now. We don't need another one.
And the emphasis on health improvement is an idea long overdue. Not much being discussed around that at this time. How can you fund a non-existant program? Any actuary will tell you that they cannot price a product that does not exist. The congress is trying to find money for health care but they have not clearly defined what health care they will fund?
I have spent a lot of time here in Indy and in DC working with this. I have been afforded several meetings with congressional aides. I belong to a committee that includes the CEO of Wellpoint and about twenty other provider and payor executives.
There is such a rush to get 'something' out, that whatever it is we get, will not be well thought out. The rush is to meet the president's time frame and get ready for mid-terms. Let congressional committees deal with the details.
We are in for a bumpy ride.

Hasn't that been the case for everything this president has pushed so far?

Has anyone on here ever been turned away from healthcare because you didn't have insurance?
From personal experience this is what I have seen...a potiential patient will call our office and want to make an appointment...ask what the cost is...discussion of their insurance coverage...either they have great coverage, or high copays/deductables, or no coverage. Often this will determine if they become a patient. Our prices are set to match what Medicare sets...

PresidentJust a member of ACSC Board of TrusteesObamacare will solve that problem. It will raise taxes on everything we eat, drink, or exhale. then we'll be better off.
And Obama still smokes.
