So far, it seems like a witches' brew of medications with anxiety created cardiac and breathing problems which combined to take him down.
On a certain level, it is almost understandable that he is dead at 50. I do not think he would ever choose to become 'old'. He was all about the youth culture and turning 50 must've been a crisis point for him.
