Reske versus Hupfer
|
Is it just me, or has the Herald Bulletin been harping on this race the past few days? Well, if they can do it, so can we. What the heck: it's been slow here at AFP. I hate to say it, but I'm getting a little bored. To enliven the mood a little, I decided to throw this hot potato out there and see who took a stab at it. During the last election cycle, the Republicans ran political ingenue Kelly Gaskill against incumbent Scott Reske. Because of her inexperience, lack of knowledge and her ineptitude in dealing with the public during the debates, her candidacy seemed like a real slap in the face to local voters. Couldn't the Republican party come up with a stronger, more experienced and savvy candidate for this race? Did they think we're all hilljacks out here in District 37? C'mon! It seems they heard.....we now have Republican Kyle Hupfer, the former Indiana DNR chief, lawyer and current Vice President for ProLiance which bills itself as "an energy related holding company with subsidiaries focused on serving and investing in the natural gas industry," and holds the suite level at the Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indy, as Reske's new opponent. Hupfer's resume looks impressive. Through his state connections and his business connections, he can provide some strong influence in the Statehouse for our beleagered county. On the other hand, I like Reske even if I don't know him personally. Don't get me wrong: I don't agree with everything he's done. But the man has been our Representative a long time and he knows the ropes. Sure, Hupfer's been at the State Capitol for 2 years, but Reske has been there a lot longer. He knows the issues and he knows the players. Which guy could get more done for Madison County? Which one is more likely to listen to local interests rather than cleve to state interests? Could Hupfer be a Mitch Daniels plant? Who knows? The Herald Bulletin is calling Reske a whiner. They seem awfully quick to jump on Hupfer's bandwagon. I'm undecided. Any other views out there? “If you treat an individual as he is, he will stay as he is; but if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe |

Ok, I'll take the bait---I think Reske has been there long enough. Time for some new blood. Think elected office need not be a career. I also think that Reske, he doth protest too much, especially at this early stage. Last election it was a disgrace how much money was spent with each slamming the other daily. The only one that profited might have been the printing company and the paper recycler.

Yeah, I couldn't believe how much money the Republicans were paying out for Kelly's mailers.....very slick they were. They were also really misleading and downright dirty. I would rather this race be about LEGITIMATE issues, things that can really help Madison County residents, rather than stupid dirtballs those guys were tossing.

Scott seemed to have just as many and just as nasty.

SORRY BUT THEY ALL PLAY NASTY IN MY BOOK.
I like the statement Foodie made, that elected office should not be a career, that should be for anyone that is elected into office, including judges, council men and women, etc.

OK. On that basis, we should make it a point to get rid of Lanane, Lutz and Austin, too, right?

Works for me! I would be satisfied if they could get rid of Pat Bauer and his rug that he stores at the bottom of the clothes hamper. That would be a good start and maybe some could think for themselves!

I would like something passed to where whoever they are as elected official they could only hold the job for 4 to 8 years and would like it to be only 4 years. JMO
