I am sure you know but there is no rule outside of the city limits As far as I know
In the crazy world of Air Mgt.,,,, Indianapolis has jurisdiction to all the donut countys. (That is one reason they put the hammer down on open burning,, for economic development reasons)
The City of Anderson has jurisdiction past the city limits,,,,,, "If I remember correct" up to 5 miles. The reason is because smoke and air pollution can travel unrestricted.
A hog farm wouldn't be allowed north of Cross St or east of Rangeline Rd. the office of Air Mgt, could stop it, for air quality reasons.
I can remember raking my grandmother huge yard and putting all the leaves in piles lining her driveway, then we would light one end and watch all day long as the fire would work its way all the way around and burn up all the leaves (ok, sometimes we had to encourage it a bit through the damp spots). We normally followed that day up with a big ol' bonfire with wienies and marshmallows.
She did live in the country, nearest town with more than a few people was Ft. Wayne, and that was 30 mile. And she did die almost 10 years ago...last time she was healthy enough to do this with me was probably 15+ years ago. Still think of her every time I smell burning leaves.
I was thinking of burning some leaves here in a few weeks...gee whiz Captain, now you got me feeling all guilty about it and thinking of buying some bags instead....my neighbors (and everyone who visits Gas America) thank you.

"It's all about education" (many people burn leaf's because they saw mom, dad, or grandparents do it.) back in those days we didn't live on top of each other.
Fireplaces burn hotter,, and the smoke will travel upwards away from the homes in the neighborhood. Sure you can use your fireplace,, (I'll bring some wine over for you and your hubby, It's the only way to spend a cold winters night)
You must be the one having breathing troubles
Sorry I know when mine start burning wood it is harder for me to breath
I hope that you have a great day today and I that your tomorrow is even better than you can imagine..

At first I thought about posting some rules for open burning,,, But I thought it would give the green light for open burning.
But "If" a neighbor still wants to live in the last century of trash burning. Here are some rules.
1. All fires must attended at all times.
2. A water supply must be at the fire (garden hose)
3. "NO" burning on the ground,, must have air access (i.e. a cage to burn in)
4. "NO" burning after dark or at dusk
5.Only "natural" materal can be burned,,, no rubber, plastic, roofing etc.
6.Weather can be a factor,,, no burning on a windy day, rainy day, ozone day or when we have a air inversion.
If you have problems with trash fire smoke call Air Mgt. they work out of city hall.
Open burning burns more than yard trash, & any smoke can cause coughing, asthma, & respiratory stress.
Learn "NOT" to burn,,, burning rules don't stop the smoke.
Lets all keep the crisp autumn air crisp.
Thank you so much....
