Hmm. Maybe we should start some way for us to collect these types of things together - that way people have places to donate to - things to donate to...
Not to distract from the BMX thing, but as our audience grows, we need to always keep in mind how to collect data together and make it easier to browse here at AFP.
Content type would be 'donation' or 'donation opportunity'? They would have to be run through me (or editorial staff once we have that...)
Beyond that, maybe teachers? I hear they spend a lot out of their pocket on supplies, etc. This was from people in the Muncie, DelCo area.
Actually, I could think of a lot of uses for it. Problem would be getting the word out about it and having enough people know about Anderson Free Press...
Not saying I couldn't use the help, as being a P.O. I am by no means rich, but I am fortunate enough to have a decent job and at least can make payments on a payment plan w/ the help of family and friends) but I do feel for the parents who have talented children but cannot afford to have them showcase that talent, whether in sports, arts etc.....And I am sure there are several on here in one position or the other. I know another person on her whose daughter also plays softball (another team) and is in the same position I am.
And I also believe the same is true for teachers in Anderson/Madison Co....I personally know one who spent about $2,000 of her own $ on supplies and projects for kindergarten alone. Thats dedication!
Now I know why I never pursued putting my girls in travel ball. Brooklyn will have to do.
There are some around that are not as expensive. She played, and I helped coach a travel team for a couple of years and the cost was only around $150. The difference is that we played several tourneys that were close to home to keep the costs down. We actually had 2 girls that played for us from Brooklyn--we worked it out to where they could do both)
The team my daughter is on now plays in several college scouting tourneys and we have to travel several times to Ohio, Detroit Mi, and possibly Birmingham AL. A few of the tourneys are a week long, so that means a lot of used up vacation time as well. Hopefully, if the daughter stays on the right track, it might pay off in the long run for college. If not, at least I know I gave her an opportunity. (not to mention being broke )
We are just disappointed that they can't play past 16 on the girls softball leagues. They don't want to play high school, because they can't start the season at Brooklyn until high school is over. But they aren't ready to just stop at 16 either. Maybe my 16 will go on and play high school next year. It's not that she's great at it...she just enjoys it. This will be itty bitty's first year. Coach's Pitch, so I have a lot years left watching some of my girls play. :)
sidenote: They missed playing last year, because I didn't have the money to sign them up and my ex had his nose up his new wife's butt. Probably literally. <rolling eyes>
This year..he's all about them playing...but he won't coach. He used to coach the Senior Girls. But once again...he's up someone's butt.

I'm surprised to hear, if I'm reading this right, that Brooklyn doesn't work around High School ball. We used to play at Riverfield (major's) but the Senior league would start the season much later just for that reason, to wait until High School was close to being finished.
They always started the season on time. Would borrow girls from the other teams that weren't playing that night to fill in for the girls that were playing ball at high school. I wouldn't have realized this if it wasn't for having girls playing senior ball for about 6 years.
