The smoke and steam was intense... at one point i could not even see, breath & was slightly overcome with the heavy smoke coughing... just walking around the home still many feet away, These fireman do a remarkable job and are precisely trained for this job.. everyone needs to give them a big Thank you for working these fires in the worse of conditions.
Total,
I agree, the men & women of the AFD do a fantastic job regardless of the weather they are out on the front lines, day or night, rain, sleet, snow or shine and they deserve all of the appreciation that we can give.
I have never ever went that close to a fire fight.. I always stayed away not to interfere. I truly never seen what they do that close, They are Troopers.. I don't think most of us can fathom what the do in there job unless you get the chance to see what i just did if only for a short moment.. My God It Was Cold..
It has since warmed up a balmy 5 degrees.....
I think ill shall take a new route to the dollar store..any body got a heads up on the street conditions with all the water. Son lives by St. Marys and said it was a mess on 14th.
I saw it up close and personal last year when one of the bldgs out here burnt. It was January and I felt so sorry for the guys. That is why we got food together and coffee for them as the sorry ass mgr at that time would not do a thing. The witch!
The water & ice was spraying for hundreds of feet, I'm sure that area is now an ice rink... If you could find your way in from the West side of the dollar store you might be OK..
