Okay, so it is NOT Chinese, but it was the only ethnic group on the list. Perhaps it can be adjusted, later.

The Nile, Anderson's hidden jewel. If you are wanting a break from the traditional franchise chain, this is it.

Hidden out in the plain wide open, The Nile faces a busy 8th Street with parking in the back. Walk inside and you no longer feel as though you are in Anderson. The cluttered, kitschy atmosphere transforms you into mood for something other than burgers, fries, and pizza pies.

I always start with hummus. It doesn't seem right not to. The hummus is delicious and served with warm pita. And it's made right there in the restaurant each day; it doesn't come from a truck. I have more than once put the cooks out by calling in an order of three pounds of hummus for carryout, and they never fail to remind me that they will have to make a new batch because I would be buying all that they made for the day. But I tip for their trouble.

If the idea of eating lamb gyros isn't comfortable for you, there are many other options, both carnivorous and herbivorous. Fool, with its fava beans and mixed veggies is a great option, as is the falafel dinner. I love the tahini dipping sauce that the falafel comes with. If you need a little meat on your plate, a good option is the shish taouk (chicken) or the kibee. Okay, so I admit it's the pine nuts and tomato sauce that prompts that suggestion, but I have had it and it is very good.

For dessert, enjoy a piece of baklava. Or maybe some Turkish coffee. But be warned, if you have never had Turkish coffee, do not chug it down. Very thick, as it should be, and very gritty. And let me warn you about the caffeine rush you'll feel soon afterwards. Even daily coffee drinkers like me can be soaring off of this caffeine kick.

I'm a big fan of The Nile. It is great to find something outside "the norm" when choosing your dining experience in Anderson. If you haven't already, check it out!

And yes, I need to add more categories. It's on the list! (TM)

Location fixed (I think...)

What ethnic categories would we need for the county?

Definitely don't forget the main ones: Italian, Mexican. Not that there are many in the area, but it could happen, there are Indian, Thai, Irish (think Claddagh), Kosher (think Shapiros)...Maybe we could even add Brewpub to the list, in case people are interested in venturing out a little bit, like Noblesville's Barley Island or Downtown Indy's Rock Bottom or Alcatraz. Maybe one for Fine Dining and one for Diner-type, or Buffet? Or we could just have an "Other" category with a blank field that is for optional description if nothing else fits?

Yeah, it could eventually grow to include the entire state. Very easily. :)

I'll add those later tonight. I was getting most of mine from Yahoo's categorization.

Beyond cuisine, though, we could add another 'category' of expense, etc. So you could mark it fast food, fine dining, casual lunch, etc. Then people could browse by cuisine, or dining style... or... ???

Good ideas!! I like!

Actually I believe The Nile classifies themselves as "Egyptian" but I think it resembles more what I'm used to with Greek food. I was at a Greek restaurant on Friday in Indy, and the menu was very similar. So yeah, I'd go with Greek!

Do they still have that wonderful flavored steak? I know, steak?, but I am not really into most of the other foods. But at one time, I loved there steak, and green beans in the tomato sauce or whatever, Yum.
