What the h*** was I thinking.
I went into a grocery store the other morning (a little before 6:00a.m.) and I got a cart full of stuff to eat. When I got up to the checkout there was not a single person at the registers. I started to go to a self checkout when something occured to me, i do not get paid to ring up groceries. Why should I do this? It puts people out of work and I have not seen a drop in the prices of food so it does me no good there. They do not offer a discount for doing it yourself. Who gets the extra money? You can bet it is someone who is well off enough already that they do not need it, meanwhile my taxes go up to pay for the cashier that is out of work because of it. I will pay for this either in for welfare or unemployment or both (most likely). I thought that when I first seen these self serve things that they would be cool and they were. I just did not think it all of the way through. I now refuse to use these and will not ring myself up as this is not my job. Next thing you know restaurants will expect us to bus our own tables (oops they already do). By the way I left the cart there with everything in it and told the person that just stood there that I was not going to ring it up myself and probably would not be back, at least not when no one is on the registers.

Never thought of it that
Never thought of it that way.

I see it as one person is
I see it as one person is getting paid to stand there and help you out if you run across a problem with the self-serve. I can't stand 2 registers open and 10 people in line because they don't open another register. I prefer to see 4 people self servicing at once with one cashier supervising. Because they dang sure don't seem to be wanting to open 2 more registers. And that the way it was before the self serv registers were open. But that's just me.
I totally agree and I have
I totally agree and I have been known to leave a cart with food as they refused to open another lane and I REFUSE to use self checkout.
I agree with CC, and, it may
I agree with CC, and, it may just be me, but I kinda like doing self serve, then no one sees my private stuff;) At the same time, I do understand and agree with what brent is saying.

Do any of you really know
Do any of you really know why they brought in self serve? to keep prices down.It is going to be the industry standard. At that time in the morning they have 1 person who can run 8 registers. Other wise you have 1 with eight people waiting in line. It is more cost effective. It is not taking away any cashier jobs. By the way do you pump your own gas? Or do you get mad and leave the hose on the ground and leave? I asked Questions.....I would rather they try and keep my food prices down, we get no assistance.

I do remember when there
I do remember when there were full service gas stations, I also remember that it was usually a nickel cheaper to pump it yourself. Now you just pump it yourself anyway and who gets the nickel? The gas companies! So eventually I am sure that enough people will use the self serve so that the cashier will also be a thing of the past. Where will that money go? Its a good thing the trash company put the lift arm on the side of their trucks or the next thing you know we would have to be up in the morning to dump our trash cans into them.
SHHH, if you say that to
SHHH, if you say that to loud, they will hear you. Then they may not replace if a truck breaks down. LOL
Hey, I'm just looking
Hey, I'm just looking forward to the day when they do away with all OB-GYN's and we can do our own paps. I never did like some stranger sticking cold, hard things in there!

Self service is awesome
Self service is awesome when I am buying one item and everyone else in line has a cart full....
also, it entertains my children and there are no candy racks right in their face...
