IFB Young Farmer Program Recognized Nationally

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indiana Farm Bureau Young Farmer program received two awards related to participation in "Harvest for All," a Farm Bureau program that assists food banks in the Feeding America network.

At the Young Farmer and Rancher Leadership Conference held in Sacramento, Calif., Feb. 7-9, 2009, the IFB program placed second nationally in dollars raised, collecting $45,699. How that money was collected also led to an "innovative program" award.

County Young Farmer programs purchased a piggy bank to decorate and collect money for food banks in their county. Counties were challenged to each collect $1,000 in their banks; 18 met the challenge. The Young Farmer program will continue to use the piggy banks as a way to collect funds for Feeding America.

The Farm Bureau Young Farmer program assists in the development of tomorrow's agricultural leaders for roles in Farm Bureau, government and the community. Participants are Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18 and 35. For more information, contact Chris Fenner, 317-692-7844 or cfenner@infarmbureau.org, or visit www.infarmbureau.org.
