United Way of Madison County Receives Facebook Challenge Grant Award

ANDERSON, IN - United Way of Madison County was recently awarded $1500 from United Way of America as the Phase 3 fourth place winner of their 2008 Facebook Cause Challenge. The $1500 award is to be used toward future campus engagement activities.

During the first phase of the challenge, United Way of Madison County encouraged individuals to join the "Operation Weatherization" Facebook cause page. The second phase asked cause members to invite their "friends" to join and donate to the cause.

The third phase requested members to volunteer their time during to the event. The second annual Operation Weatherization event mobilized 140 local volunteers resulting in 821 volunteer hours and raised $5,280 placing fourth out of 69 participating United Ways during the last leg of the challenge.

Sponsors Deloitte, FedEx, Gatorade and CheapTickets awarded $35,000 in grants throughout the three phases of the challenge.

Sixty-nine local United Ways across the United States and Puerto Rico participated in three phases resulting in 7,702 hours volunteered, 1,818 engaged volunteers. $70,022 funds raised for their communities and 20,577 United Way Facebook members.
