I agree with PH. my concern for these women are they think they can change the guy, or he puts even more fear into them by saying what he will do if they do leave....most do not have resources to leave because a man that will abuse usually is control of the finances and such.
I have been there too, mine threatened me with my kids...told me I was a worthless mother and no judge would ever grant me custody. I was thrown thru walls just for changing the channel on the tv when he wasn't even watching it. For the longest time, I was afraid to stay and afraid to leave. I finally did gather the courage and took one of my daughters with me ...he wouldn't let me have the oldest one. The other one was in high school and wanted to finish at Anderson...I moved to Alex. when she turned 18 and was out of school...guess where she went. That's right.....To mom's house.....this was 20 years ago and there was very little resources out there for abused women then. There are a lot of agencies out there now that are willing to help....so there is no excuse for not getting out of the situation.
I am in school and taking Criminal Justice classes. I want to eventually work with abused and battered women in some capacity....just not sure yet. I want women to know there is a way out.
I think the reason so many stay is they are scared to leave, scared of being stalked, and as Capt Jack, a restraining order is just a piece of paper!
