Back-to-School Campaign reaches out to Indiana's Uninsured

INDIANA STATEHOUSE - The 7th annual Covering Kids & Families of Indiana Back to School campaign to connect low-income children, adults and families with low cost and free health care coverage will be launching soon. Partners will speak about resources available for Indiana's 131,000 uninsured children and 600,000 uninsured adults and announce the formation of the new Indiana School Health Network at a conference at the Indiana Statehouse.

The following individuals will attend the Statehouse news conference :

  • Dr. Tony Bennett, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Indiana Department of Education
  • Loren Robertson, Indiana Deputy State Health Commissioner
  • Pat Casanova., Director, Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration
  • Dr. Sarah Stelzner, Pediatrician, Co-President, American Academy of Pediatrics-Indiana Chapter
  • Toni Estep, Board Vice Chair, Covering Kids & Families of Indiana, Inc. and CEO for Open Door/BMH Health Center in Muncie, Indiana
  • Personal testimonials on having health coverage through Hoosier Healthwise and/or the Healthy Indiana Plan
  • Other supporters may attend
The news conference will take place Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.

Covering Kids and Families of Madison County:

Covering Kids and Families of Madison County is a coordinated outreach to boost the number of qualified residents who are enrolled in public health insurance plans, which include HIP and Hoosier Healthwise. The coalition offers enrollment services, increased awareness of and guidelines for available health care programs, monitoring of the local health care environment and policies and procedures that affect coverage and access for children and families, and recommending of policy positions and strategies that promote health coverage and improved access to health care. United Way of Madison County is the lead agency for this coalition, which is funded partially through enrollment reimbursement and also by contributions from Community Hospital Anderson, BehaviorCorp/The Center for Mental Health, Madison County Community Health Center and Saint John's Health System.
