$1.5 Million Grant to Yield Six Officers

ANDERSON, IN – Late yesterday, Anderson Police learned they had been awarded $1.5 million as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

According to Chief Darron Sparks the monies will be used to hire six additional police officers.  “We’re excited,” said Sparks “The additional officers will allow us to further our primary mission which is serve our community.”

The funds are a portion of the $1 billion in grants awarded to law enforcement agencies throughout the country.  The Anderson Police Department is one of a number of police agencies in Indiana that received awards totaling $26 million in stimulus monies.

According to Chief Sparks, “We consider ourselves fortunate to have been selected from the many hundreds of applicants.  Given the difficult economic climate, how could we not take advantage a 66 percent return on our investment.”  The additional six officers will bring the police department’s compliment to 126 still six shy of the 132 officers the city enjoyed just five years ago.
