Garth Walk O9 Remembers Victim of Unsolved Delaware County Murder
MUNCIE, IN - On Saturday, October 10,the family of Garth Rector, who was murdered March 21, 2008 in southern Delaware County, is hosting a remembrance walk, aptly named Garth Walk '09.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Department is supporting the Rector family in their plans to organize a walk to not only remember Garth Rector, whose murder remains unsolved despite a $10,000 reward, but to bring together other families who themselves have lost loved ones to violent crimes. "We know how badly our family still hurts," explains Angie Mock, Rector's youngest sister, "and, we want to make people aware that the true victims of these crimes are those of us who are left behind."
Garth Walk '09 will start at 1 p.m. at Muncie Central Fieldhouse and from there participants will walk north along Wheeling Avenue to Minnetrista and then returning to the Fieldhouse along North Walnut.
Rector's widow, Angela and his daughter April, as well as Garth's parents Billy & Marilyn Rector, are hoping to connect with other families and friends who have experienced similar losses. "We also want to make people aware that Garth's murderer has not been caught. We've had people say 'oh, I thought that case was solved a long time ago' and hearing that definitely compounds our pain," notes Angela Rector.
The public is also invited to be a part of Garth Walk '09.
