Covington Bank Robbed During Snowstorm

COVINGTON COUNTY, IN - It was not just slick roads and vehicle crashes that kept troopers from the Lafayette District busy today.  At approximately 9:11 AM, on today’s date, a suspect entered the Main Source Bank in Covington and displayed a handgun while demanding money from the bank’s employees.  The suspect produced a bag and instructed employee’s to put money in the bag. The masked subject absconded with an undisclosed amount of currency.   

The suspect was described as wearing a Halloween type mask of an “old man.”  The subject was also wearing sunglasses and a black hooded jacket. The robber fled on foot from the bank and his route of travel is not known.  Main Source Bank is located at 117 Liberty Street, Covington, IN. 

No employees were injured in the course of the robbery and no patrons were inside the bank at the time of the robbery.   Uniformed troopers and detectives from the Lafayette State Police Post responded to the scene and searched for the suspect.   

Agencies assisting with and responding to the scene included the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Covington Police Department, and the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department. 

Lead investigator Tom Minnicus of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Indiana State Police stated, “Situations like these, however rare, are always dangerous.  The good part of this situation was that no one was injured.”  Minnicus added, “We ask that anyone with any information call the Lafayette Post and report what they know, no matter how small.  We will look at every possible lead and attempt to bring the subject or subjects responsible for this crime to justice.  If anyone saw anything suspicious or has heard any information, please contact us.”
