New Near-Downtown Construction Spotlights Home Ownership Month

Topics: , Types:

ANDERSON, IN - In recognition of Home Ownership Month, Anderson Mayor Kevin S. Smith and others will celebrate new home construction in an established near-downtown neighborhood on Friday, June 29 at 10 a.m. at 1708 Morton Street.

In 2005, the city targeted the neighborhood bounded by Lincoln Street, 14th St., Madison Avenue and King Boulevard for use of federal Community Development dollars. Derelict structures were demolished, existing homes were upgraded, sidewalks and lighting installed and paving completed. Four new homes were also constructed in a partnership between the city, Habitat for Humanity and Anderson Community Schools building trade classes.

Mayor Kevin S. Smith, homeowners, representatives of Habitat for Humanity, the Anderson Housing Authority, HUD and others will participate in the celebration.
