ANDERSON, IN - The city of Anderson will host local government representatives and Brownfield professionals from throughout the nation, Sept. 5-6 at Anderson Public Library during a national Brownfields Renewal Workshop. The workshop is being conducted by the National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals. Sponsors of the event include the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Hull & Associates and Spiegel & McDiarmid.
"Over the past 3 1/2 years Anderson has worked hard to transform impaired properties that have been a blight to Anderson's residents into opportunities that catalyze economic growth and improve the quality of life for the entire community. We are honored that NALGEP has chosen Anderson for this workshop." said Mayor Kevin Smith.
NALGEP has brought together a diverse group of highly respected Brownfield professionals for the purpose of exploring a variety of redevelopment strategies. Anderson's ongoing Brownfield redevelopment efforts will be used to showcase how a number of Brownfield techniques can be integrated into an overall redevelopment strategy.
Workshop topics will include Brownfield basics, the role of public/private partnerships, innovative tools to address liability and finances, and the importance of community outreach and involvement. Lunch will include a keynote address by the highly respected planning and development expert, Mike Higbee, President of Design Concepts, Inc.
