HDTV is going to be mandatory sometime in the near future – we all might as well get ready. Note the following quote: “Currently, the FCC rules state the start-up of digital broadcasts and phase-out of analog broadcasts in 2006. Right now, there aren't that many stations broadcasting. As we get closer to 2006, however, your current analog television set will either have to be replaced or you will need to buy some sort of set-top box for converting the digital signal." Yes this article appears to be dated, but, still…. The full article can be found here: http://www.wishtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1052772. Make sure you scroll down and read the section on “What Do I Need To Buy.” Converters: $40.00? CC-Gal & Kpaul probably know something about this looming situation.

Namvet said on another site that there are sites that you can download coupons to get the converters for something like $20.

I'm getting a new TV anyway, but I think I'll have to buy a converter for our current TV, since it's going up in the playroom. Yay. I'm thinking it's not digital, but I don't really know.

Okay, and a few others, in case no one really wants to go back to the old site:

Looks like we have a little while, though.

This is government mandated and will not take place until 2009.

Beginning january 1, families can receive 2 coupons worth 40.00 a piece towards the purchase of a converter.

HOWEVER, you do not need to run out and buy a new HDTV or converter if you have your service with Insight (soon to be comcast), because we are going to automatically convert those signals for our customers so it will be no extra cost to them.

I didn't mean that in a snarky way. It's cool that you're talking about Insight (soon to be Comcast) here as you can answer questions, etc. I'd love to have more local advertisers, though.

I don't get what you're saying KPaul. Some had questions about the conversion and I told what I know.

I am not plugging my employer, only trying to inform the masses because alot of people are being told by Best Buy and other places, that if they do not purchase a new HDTV, they will not be able to recieve the signals.

I want everyone to know this is incorrect and and a scare tactic to sell HDTVS. I cannot speak for ATT, Dish, And others but I do know for a fact that Insight will automatically converts those signals for their customers so they are not required to make any purchases to get the signals.

Here is the officail site about the conversion.

KPaul, i'm just a customer service rep but I know that we have commercial sales reps and business reps for advertising. I can get you the information if you'd like.

Like I said, I think it's a good thing (I have no problem with it) although I mights sounded a little snarky in the first post it wasn't my intention to sound that way. (And I didn't want to lose points for editing my post! heh.)

Seriously, though, it's helpful for you to be able to ask questions if they come up.

Please carry on!

(and PM the info if you don't mind...)
